I'm going around the engine (3.2 motor) and identifying everything I still need minor parts for; hoses, connectors, etc. I noticed this mounting point on the block next to the oil cooler. Is there some significance to this I'm missing?

So what you're saying is that connection point may have significance in the future. Oh yaa - super charged SHO! :omgsho:

What about this one - on the opposite side? Looks to be some type of oil or coolant port?

The one by the filter is empty on my 3.0, and has been that way for a really, really long time. (23 1/2 years or so):

The one on the other side is apparently where you mount your dead spider. Either that or it's the oil pressure sender. One of the two :)

I like the dead spider idea better.

Thanks guys. I don't think I have the Oil pressure sender in my box-o-parts, but I'll look and see. If not I can pick up a new one.

FWIW, this is the wire that plugs into the oil pressure sender. It's identical-looking to the coolant temp dummy gauge sender - it just pushes on.

Of course the oil sending unit will have to match the gauge. Since I am using a 86 Mustang dash, I am using a Mustang sending unit. Of course I will check oil pressure with test gauge first. Maurice

Is the stock pressure switch based on voltage or impedance, and are there any specs on the range of values?

Edit: As I think about it, since its a single wire its probably just impedance. So does the stock Taurus use a oil pressure light (on/off) or does it use an actual gauge?

Edit #2: OK found it in the manual, page 61-2. The oil pressure is just an indicator light (on/off). This is the same setup as the 914, so I will attempt to just use my stock indicator light with the SHO signal.

Unsure on the SHO. But I am assuming the SHO has oil pressure gauges. [Remember all I got was motor and wiring] That being said it should be a variable resistor sensor to ground to operate the gauge. Now the SHO motor has a low oil sensor [one in the oil pan] that does turn on a light. Maurice

Learned something. Put this kind of motor in a car and use lights. Interesting. Thanks Maurice

iirc, the Ford standard is to turn on the idiot light at less than 5psi oil pressure. I don't know what impedance that corresponds to in the sensor.

It's a simple switch - open when oil pressure is sufficient - closed when it isn't.

BLy6M

As you can see, the closing point of the switch is between 4.5 and 7.5 psi. Minimum oil pressure at hot idle, as per the factory manual, is 12.8 psi.
