Before I dive into my current dilema, let me recap what I'm working with. I have a 3.2L SHO motor with a ATX engine harness (EH) already installed. I've chosen to use the MTX component harness (CH) and XJ2 computer.

We've already worked out the other wiring connections to the component harness (CH). My current dilema has to do with the wiring from the EH to the DIS (ICM).

My EH has two, eight-pin, female connectors; grey one on the right (back) and black one on the left (front). I had these marked as intermediate connectors for the DIS. I realize the DIS has two flat 6-pin connectors - we'll get to that in a minute.

First question. Is there an intermediate connector like this between the EH and the DIS or are these for something else?

Left (front) black connector:

Im not sure if thats what you mean , but you want to connect the injector harness to the engine harness right?

Those round plugs are the link between the 2 , If you end up with ALL female plugs , and the wires colors dont even match , Ive been there done that.

It seems that some years (maybe in 89) they changed it - I think the injector harness should have male round plugs. That plugs into your engine harness.

The injector harness are all supposed to be the same (ATX/MTX/89-95) But somewhat , theres that one that slipped through the cracks.

jello, thanks for the link. Those are similar to the wiring diagrams I have. In fact it looks to be parts of the one PDF that I have.

phoenix, its the wire colors that are creating the problem. But first I wanted to verify that the connections to the DIS (ICM) module came from the engine harness via these intermediate connectors?

I have the mating connectors for these two & the wire colors match the EH connectors.
Here's the right (back) grey mating connector:

And the left (front) black connector:

Assuming these are the correct intermediate connectors to the DIS, I'm not able to match them to the two 6-pin flat DIS connectors because none of the colors match. In addition, I wasn't able to find most of the these wires (by color) on the schematics.

Right (Back) Grey connector, left to right, top to bottom:
  • Empty
  • W/R
  • BK/PK
  • LB/BK
  • Empty
  • PP
  • Empty
  • PK/LB

Left (Front) Black connector, left to right, top to bottom:
  • GY/R
  • O
  • PP/O
  • PP/Y
  • Empty
  • Empty
  • Empty
  • BK/W

The DIS connectors are colored completely different, but at least I was able to identify them on the schematics.
Right (Back) C156 connector:
  1. R/LG
  2. LB
  3. Empty
  4. GY
  5. Y/LG
  6. R/LB

Left (Front) C155 connector:
  • O/R
  • Y/BK
  • Y/W
  • Empty
  • Y/R
  • GY/O

So my dilmena is not being able to mate these intermediate connectors to the proper wires on the DIS connectors.

I wish could help. I got a extra 3.2 94 SHO harness.

If any of it I can ohm out be glad to do it.

I tried using a 3.2 harness and moding to the Mustang. [It is piled up in a box, a mess] I would up using the 93 2.3 Mustang harness and just adding the SHO wiring. The way I did it. I put on board and ohm out each wire. This is the start of a turbo conversion one. Maurice

Thanks for offer Maurice. If I can sort this out, I'll stick with what I have. If not, I'll have to dump the 3.2 engine harness and install the 3.0 harness - but at this point it's my last resort.

Tom gave me a paper copy of the EVTM pages showing the components and related connectors including wire colors. However, I'm still unable to locate these two 8-pin connectors and the colors corresponding to them. They just don't seem to fit with the DIS wiring.

Is there a manual that has a definitive wiring diagram for just the engine harness for both MTX & ATX - I think I could work from that?

TIA

Does those wires actually have anything to do with the motor. I am just wondering if the wiring is just "in the bundle" to get from one side of car to the other side of car. Ford just saved the effort to run a separate wire bundle? Just a guess on my part. Maurice

I had them marked for the DIS connector a long time back - so I don't recall how I came to that conclusion & its not in my notes. Some of the wires for the DIS go to the coil, the cam shaft sensor, the cranks sensor, & the EEC - so it makes sense that the wires would be included in the engine harness bundle.

Plus I've traced all the wires for the DIS on the schematics/wiring diags and there are no indications of wire color changes - or even these intermediate connectors for that matter.

Damn I'm gettin old. I've concluded that I created this problem.

  1. The stock engine harness runs wires directly to the DIS via two connectors run under the surge tank.
  2. Pictures of my original EH that I found show the two DIS connectors.
  3. My installed EH doesn't have the DIS connectors & my surge tank doesn't have the mounting pad for the DIS.

I knew I was relocating the DIS, so I must have rewired in some intermediate connectors so that I could route the wires in my engine bay during final install.

Where I screwed up obviously was in not documenting my change. My bad. I guess that means I'll be pulling the intake off so that I can determine how I've changed the wiring.

Sorry for the mix up. You guys are great.

i looked at mine (3.0 mtx) and neither of those connectors are plugged into the DIS they are around the DIS and are in the same branch of wire bound. I dont know how much a difference the mtx vs atx harness's are.

Glad you fiqured it out. Wiring can get interesting at times mine has. I found you can use green body shop tape, wrap around wire, then can write notes or info on it. That has helped me alot. Maurice

OK, just to CMA (mine as opposed to yours), I'm going to document my wire mapping here. That way if I screw up again, you can point me to this page and say - Remember!

I didn't have to remove the intake. Once I sat and thought about it I figured I could just check the DIS leads against the opposite ends - which are all in the engine harness.

How I mapped my 8-pin intermediate connectors (I.C.) for DIS to their stock 6-pin counterparts.

DIS connector (pins 1-6) C156
  1. (R/LG) VBAT --> (PP) #6 Grey I.C.
  2. (LB) CID --> (PK/LB) #8 Grey I.C.
  3. N/A
  4. (GY) PIP --> (LB/BK) #4 Grey I.C.
  5. (Y/LG) SPOUT --> (BK/PK) #3 Grey I.C.
  6. N/A

DIS connector (pins 7-12) C155
  • (O/R) IGND --> (BK/W) #8 Black I.C.
  • (Y/BK) COIL-1 --> (PP/Y) #4 Black I.C.
  • (Y/W) COIL-3 --> (PP/O) #3 Black I.C.
  • N/A
  • (Y/R) COIL-2 --> (O) #2 Black I.C.
  • (T/Y[3.2]:GY/O[3.0]) PCM --> (GY/R) #1 Black I.C.

And yes, I checked it twice. :nut:
