I have a SS 80mm MAF on my car somewhere on one of my readings i came across with a couple of pictures of SHO's that had a 90mm Ford Lighting MAF in then, does anybody know what are the gains if any from 80 to 90mm, and if is any worth it to do the swap??

Also, i am considering to dump my LPM and get a SCT chip, is there anybody who could give any documentation on either the LPM or the SCT as per performance, accuracy, reliability, etc...

thanks

If your going to ditch the LPM go with a tweecer no questions asked, Also the 90mm lighting maf is a very good choice for a blowen car. I can't remember where the 80mm pegs at but it can be done with a FI SHO. The 90 will meter more air.

Before you decide to upgrade your MAF, you may want to consider a few things:

- the SS 80mm MAF is simply a recycled Lincoln Mark VIII MAF that is easily pegged under mild boost
- the Lightning 80mm MAF has a much higher flow capacity than the SS 80, making it suitable for most blower SHOs
- the Lightning 90mm MAF is a good choice for a blower car only if the Lightning 80 proves itself to be inadequate
- in setups configured for an 80mm MAF, use of a Lightning 90mm MAF will require a change in plumbing size
- Josh of SHO NUT just pegs his Lightning 80 with 17+psi of boost, a liquid-powered IC and a TwEECer RT

As for tuning choices, here are some additional ponts to consider:

- a mail-order chip will offer "out-of-the-box" gains with little work on your part at the expense of limited features
- a TwEECer affords you the chance to make your own modifications "on-the-fly" at the expense of a steep learning curve
- presently, there is no chip maker in the marketplace who can rival the TwEECer's accessibility to the X2J/D4U1 PCMs

;)

Jean, Doug is the man for the SCT. If you have the cash go ahead and get either the lightning 80 or 90mm MAF. The beauty of Dougs SCT is that he can dyno tune if for you as opposed to your "cookie cutter" LPM.

While I agree that Doug's expertise in tuning "wild and varied" setups is likley better than that of Ted or Vadim, his level of access to (and consequently, his ability to change what's needed in) the X2J and D4U1 PCMs is not any higher than that of Ted or Vadim. As such, I would be interested to see how such a setup would fare in the hands of his SCT tuning. ;)

IIWM, I would start with the 80 first and then, if it were necessary, move on to the 90.

thanks i'll kept everybody inform of how it goes i'll give Doug a call and see what he can do. as per the Teeccer i actually like the idea of looking at the numbers and changing stuff but i borrow the system from somebody else on the forum a while ago and i didnt or couldnt figure or learned anything from that i think i rather just stick with the wrenches as per computer, curves and time sparks i going to let somebody else handle that for me.

Thats the problem with the TwEECer right now. You have to figure out how to use it. Tuning does not come natural to everyone. Since I am in no dire need to get tuned any better than my SHOSHOP LPM I will wait for the SHO specific tuning primer ;)

Perhaps Doug will jump in and defend his products :corn:

You got that right. Took me forever and a day to figure it out. I still thinks it's worth it though. Hopefully it'll be easier for most people once the tuning primer comes out.
