Does anybody else have an almost non functioning rear window defrost? The real quetion is, does anybody know how to make it work better? Winter in NYC demands a defroster for the rear and my 89's isnt doing much. Help! Thanks in advance

What are the symptoms you are experiencing? Are some of the grid lines not heating up, or is the whole thing just doing nothing?

If just a few of the lines have breaks in them, you can try ands repair them yourself:

If the entire unit is not functioning, then make sure the tabs on the sides are secure, and check the related fuses and circuits.

It just seems to not be doing anything. The only thing that defogs even just a little is the spot infront of the brake light. (heat from the light)

What do you mean? Do they have a website? What did they do?
They sell and install auto glass. I had a new rear windshield with a nice new working rear defroster installed for $215 about a year ago. I only had 3 lines that were still working on my old one. I tried the repair kits and it worked on one or two of the lines but most of them were so damaged that it did not work for the majority of messed up lines.

test the connectors (one each side of the glass) with a volt meter. See if there is power there when you you switch on the switch.

If there is then you need to replace the rear glass or fine where the element traces are broken and fix them.

If there is not, then you have an electrical issue (Switch, Wires, Fuse, ECT)

and if you dont have a volt meter you can test the connector and the lines with a simple test light...the light will be brightest toward the edge of the window and will dim toward the center...if there is a break in the line then the light will not light up...
