there's plenty of stuff you can get from the junkyard, but struts and springs are something i'd recommend getting new. monroe quick struts aren't that expensive, and they're easy to replace.

agreed with above go new, i have done rear struts a few times, you do not want to do them twice because of a simple mistake, the first time i did them i reused the strut mounts, a week later they started knocking so i had to do it all over again because i didnt spend an extra $50. So go new on everything do it once and forget about it

i went to the j/y today and they said the only strut assembly i can use is from 89-90 and it has to be an SHO. i need somthing cheep. i have a rattling/clunking noise in the rear strut tower and the rear end is sagging. when i do the push 3 times test it doesnt bounce so i think i need the mount and spring rite?

So who do you listen to? Some j/y guys or SHO owners? Besides if they knew anything they changed the struts in the middle of 92. They just made them longer.

Any 89-95 strut will work. Even non-SHO. You may not have the same ride but they will work.

You should do new rear mounts otherwise you will be right where you started. I have re used mounts and it never works for some reason.

If you walk around long enough, you'll find a taurus that has a newer set of struts on it. Trust me, BTDT. Used is fine as long as they arent leaking or the mounts are trashed.

The rear springs on the '86- '91 Taurus Sedans are different than the '92 - '95 Taurus Sedans. The struts themselves are the same, but the springs are different. There is no difference on the springs for SHO's vs. SLO's. Motorcraft used to make a strut specific to the SHO, but they have been discontinued for along time so any strut you find for a SLO will work for the SHO.

Hope this helps.

thought so!

so if the struts are the same for 86-07, then the springs & mounts are also inter-changeable??
No, read my post above. the REAR SPRINGS are different on the '86 to '91 Taurus SEDANS. The struts themselves are the same

Holy shitballs, let me break this down real easy-like.

From 86-07, the struts, mounts, and springs from sedans will bolt in and work just fine.

Spring rates changed throughout the years so you may get a stiffer or softer ride, but they'll physically bolt in and work.

Mounts changed in design, but physically the bolt pattern stayed the same.

Rears are a PITA with labor time so worth it to get new mounts rather than used ones. They will set you back about $100 pair IIRC. Many years ago I reused the mounts when replacing struts since I was also broke, and within 6 months had to redo again.
