Car runs fine but I am switching out the subframe, halfshafts, and doing the oilpan gasket. I have extensive records, the clutch has not been changed. Should I do it now, I found this in Ebay:

Kit # 07-082N

89-90 Taurus SHO 3.0L

9-1/4" 235 MM Clutch

9-1/4" x 7/8" x 20 Spline

$105 is the buy it now - this'll fit my 92?

not sure if the clutch will fit. but if you are pulling the subframe do the clutch it should only take you another 25 - 30 mins to pull the trans, clutch and flywheel. to me i would just do it now it only make sense. good luck

That is not the right clutch for a 92, that's the old crappy clutch that got recalled from 89's and I think early 90's. You will burn it up in no time if you beat on the car at all. You want the updated 9 3/4" clutch it's much MUCH better.

I guess I would be taking a chance on wether or not it would fit

i would agree because 89-91 is gen1 and 92-95 is gen2. so therefore i would say no. but at the same time i am not sure if gen1 parts cross with gen2. if i were you i would just spend the extra cash on the clutch of your choice for the gen2. if you are not heavily modded just buy an oem replacement. i just put a LUK clutch set in mine so far so good but it has only been about 10k, and i beat the shit out of mine so we will see.

85k on the original clutch is awesome, but that doesn't mean it's going to go anytime soon. If you're **** bent on replacing it get yourself a LUK or OEM clutch. You just don't need more than that unless you're heavily modded.

yep, that's a Tempo clutch. 9 1/4".

You want the 9 3/4" ... because of your flywheel...that 9 1/4" version has plenty of bite for a stock car, it just wears out slightly faster.

OK, thanks for the input guys. I'll double check my records but I think that it is the original clutch.

Have heard rumors about a lot of failures on the small clutch while the original 9 1/4 clutch in my '89 lasted 140k, I bought it in 1990 with 20k on it and the TOB finally gave out, but the clutch was still grabbing. I think the TOB was more of a problem than the clutch; One of the reasons the '89 was the fastest stock SHO was the lighter clutch.
Go figure, the OEM Ford replacement clutch and new flywheel with 9 3/4 was already slipping after only 10k mi.. The pressure plate is much heavier on the larger clutch. WIsh there was a lighterweight version out there.
