I'm considering, or looking into putting the bigger MAF on my SHO, I know you have to reprogram to make it work..... do you have to have the tweecer or is there another cheaper way perhaps?

The cheaper way is not to waste your money. Unless you have forced induction, the stock MAF is not a restriction of air flow to the motor.

You can use an LPM to program it. What other mods do you have on the car? Something else to think about is how you are going to adapt it to fit. While the maf may flow better, if you change your air flow path too much to get it to fit it may cause your power to drop off in the higher rpm range. I have seen this happen more than once. Just my 2 cents

Prolly not worth the time and money unless you have other extensive mods...

I felt like I lost power even with exhaust, Big bores and an EH intake manifold... Just my two cents tho

Without a good tune that MAF will make your car run worse. I tried 2 LPM tunes with my 80, then finally went back to stock, and it runs notable better with the old 55 MAF. Someobody good on a tweecer could probably make some extra power with an 80 though..

I too tried two tunes and neither one did anything for the car...

Why dont you buy a tweecer and tune both of our cars!?!?!

:thankyou:

Gotta think of this way, the SHO was designed by Ford to be a fast, performance enhanced vehicle. They did there homework in designing the car to get the most from the thousands of 3.0 yamaha engines they were contracted to buy, that was also cost effective. The size of a MAF I don't think would have made much different on cost of vehicle. So they did there calculations and research and found 55mm is the best size to use for the 3.0 yamaha engines. If they knew the sho would be faster with an 80mm, they would have used that instead. The 80mm is used in the 4.6, dohc Lincoln Mark VII thats sucks a lot more air in.

Now, if Ford desinged the sho to be turbo or supercharged, it would of course have a big effect on the price of the car, making it a lot more. they would have used a larger maf in that case because it would require more air being sucked in.

So bottom line, leave the 55mm alone unless you do major mods like forced induction.

I disagree. The tune made my car much more responsive to the throttle. The timing advance is more aggressive than stock which helped make the car more responsive. The downside is that my car pings on anything less than 91Octane. I later have reburned the LPM as I added mods like stage 1 cams, EH Intake, BBB, headers, exhaust and so on.

Bigger MAFs without other breathing mods are a waste of time. MAF should be one of the last things added. This isn't 1995, there are a whole lot more effective mods and tuning options out there.
