As it states I have acquired a 70mm MAF off of a Thunderbird. It had a 4 wire harness like my '89 SHO but a different style, so I just swaped out the sensor and it works great. No engine light, no studdering nothin. So my question is why do you have to do a computer chip upgrade or programing the computer when replacing the MAF?

It's my understanding that you have to reprogram with just about every MAF. There are a few aftermarket ones that claim they are plug n play, but even those would benefit from tuning. With the housing being a different size than the stock one and the sensor being stock I would bet that it is not properly reading the amount of air. I'm sure some guys that have a better knowledge of the exacts could explain it better.

Been running a T-bird MAF for over a year, only thing I've noticed is that it runs a bit rich due to the higher flow and sample tube size.

True it should be tuned, but it doesnt have to be. Running slightly rich wont hurt anything but your wallet at fill-up time.

Because it could be reading your air flow improperly, running you too lean and **** your engine. Not saying its going to happen, not saying the chances are even substantial, but it could happen, not a risk most want to take.

If you can't tune for the MAF, it is a wasted mod. Regardless of how you think your car is running, it isn't running correctly via computer management if you haven't account for the new MAF curve, PERIOD.

Plus if your SHO is stock , its useless. Theres like 100 mods to do before going to the maf.

Cheap mods dont cut it for the SHO sorry.

from what i recall the t birg maf makes it run leaner in some spots... someone compaired stock vs t bird before and it shown it was close but not close enough..

agreed with jason.. its usless to use a maf without tuning.. you dont gain anything
