A question that I also need to know the answer to. My car has 78k, and the previous owner said the 60k had not been done "to his knowledge". eek!

Moved to Maintenance - Engine & Driveline.

Cost will vary according to location and also who does the work. There are tons of people here on the forum that know how to do the 60k maintenance. Ask around. Don't take it to a dealership...most of them don't even know what it is anyway.

It consists of the following replacements:

T-stat
Water pump
Cam & Crank position sensors
Belts
Valve adjustment
Front main seal (if needed)
Intake gasket if required
Cleaning of intake (not really a part, but I include it anyway)
Well gaskets (again, if needed)
Spark plugs
Spark plug wires

There's something that I'm forgetting...but these are the main things.

Edit: O2 sensors... wink

this is just my price usually, but with all parts, you're usually looking to spend around *700-800 with me. There's places that charge $1500, so shop around and you'll find something that suits you!

You said 60K, but you didn't say which version of the SHO you have. The 60K interval is the same for the valve gapping and spark plug replacement for both the 3.0L and 3.2L engines, but the timing and accessory belt replacement interval is different. The 3.0L engine has a 60K interval for timing belt replacements while the 3.2L only needs new belts every 100K due to superior belt tensioners.

Depending on the age and miles on you car, it may be prudent to also replace many of the other wearable components that are accessible when doing the other jobs. Here is a list of the different jobs and the lowest price source for the parts that are associated with each service.

I. Top End Engine Work

1) Valve gap check/adjustment (Special tools, shims are about $3.50 each)

2) Spark plugs, 6 required
...Motorcraft AGSP32PP, FordPartsNetwork.com (FPN) $3.99 ea.

3) Plug wires (every 120,000 miles)
...3.0L Motorcraft WR-4033, FPN $83.99 (will fit the 3.2L)
...3.2L Motorcraft WRE-4081, FPN $134.99

4) Valve cover & plug well seals (every 120,000 miles)
...Fel-Pro VS50378R, AutoZone.com $71.99
...Fel-Pro VS50378R, RockAuto.com $83.98

5) Intake manifold gasket, 2 required (not usually required)
...Motorcraft E9DZ-9439-A, FordPartsNetwork.com $12.49

6) Thermostat (only if needed)
...Motorcraft RT-1112 (180 deg 3.0L, 192 deg 3.2L), FPN $19.99 or FordPartsOnline.com $17.77

7) Oxygen sensors, 2 required (recommend replacement with spark plugs)
...3.0L Bosch 13942, AutoZone $33.99 ea.
...3.2L Bosch 13223, AutoZone $40.99 ea.

I. Front End Engine Work

1) Timing belt
...3.0L & 3.2L Gates T248, RockAuto.com $32.81

2) Accessory belt(s)
...3.0L PS-WP, Gates K040500, RockAuto.com $10.48
...3.0L A/C-Alt, Gates K060445, RockAuto.com $11.41
...3.2L Gates K060854, RockAuto.com $20.58

3) Water Pump (rebuilt-lifetime warranty)
...3.0L A1 Cardone 57-1373, O’Reilly Auto Parts $61.45
...3.0L A1 Cardone 57-1373, RockAuto.com $49.99 (warranty?)
...3.2L A1 Cardone 57-1458, O’Reilly Auto Parts $67.99

4) Water pump gasket set (O-rings) (if desired, not usually required)
...Fel-Pro ES70425, RockAuto.com $5.32

5) Lower radiator hose (if desired, not usually required)
...Motorcraft, FordPartsOnline.com $12.87

6) Crankshaft position sensor
...Wells SU242, AutoZone/AutoZone.com $42.99, or

7) Front main oil seal
...National 710220, O’Reilly $7.99

This shows the cost of the parts, but it doesn't show the larger portion of the service cost: the labor. You can have the basic valve gap adjustment and timing belt change, including parts, for about $549 through specialists such as Performance Plus, but the labor bill alone can exceed $1,500 at dealerships.
