I am looking at 2 different SHO's at the moment. Both are 99's. Anyways, they both have
about 75,000 miles on them right now. I have one dealer that will throw in the
60k service for no extra charge if I buy the car. I am sure the dealer knows what needs to be
done, but I don't want to get ripped off. What should I make sure gets done? Thanks, Mike

P.S. Hopefully I will be a future Gen. 3 SHO owner. After owning a regular Taurus I am ready
to step up!

according to the SHOshop: "Since V8 SHOs do not need major service until 100K, we have not yet developed any packages. Stay Tuned!"

ive never heard of a 60k tune-up for the 3rd gens either

There is no 60k service for the GenIII.... at 100k , you are supposed to change the sparkplugs, and adjust the valves(shims) Not sure what else...

Anyway, my plugs were shot at 65,000 miles.
What are they asking for these cars?

The Gen 3s are serviced at 100k. If you can get the dealer to throw it in I would go for it. Valve shims are the usual PITA and you could use new plugs by now. Typical dealer cost for this would be over $1000.

Oh cool, my bad! For some reason I thought that all SHO's had to have a 60K done. I guess that is just with the V6 Yamaha huh? Ok cool I think I will go ahead and allow the dealer to do the regular 60k anyway just to make sure everything is fresh in the car. Thanks for your help.

Well the dealer who is going to throw in the 60k is asking $9,995 for the car. It's a '99 with 73,*** miles on it. It has been at the dealer for over 6 months now. I'm not sure if it has major problems or not. I am going to check it out though.

There is another '99 close by that only has 38,800 miles on it and they are asking $9,980. I need to run a carfax on the last one to see if it really has that mileage or if it just sat wrecked somewhere until they decided to fix it and sell it or if the tranny has been replaced or whatever. If the car is legit, it would be a steal for that price.

If I were you I would also figure on a $400 weld job amnd a tranny at around $2500. And if the valve covers are coming off the cams should be welded at this time but not just by anyone.

Ask the dealer what is included and how much they figure the 60k work will cost. Then talk him down that much and take the car to FPS in Douglassville GA and get it fixed right.

The shims are not available and people are just flipping the old shims, as rumor has it

How many miles is the 97, and where do you live?

He he he... his '97 has 1.5 light years... I mean 150,000 miles.

Where he lives... the outer rim... or you can look at the little tag below the sig in each posting window that shows things like the number of posts, when they registered... and where they're from! :D Sorry, couldn't resist.

Yup and as an OLD Car Veteran as yourself you know that miles dont really matter much any more. Thats more of a older engine concern with leaded gas, and no EGR system when things used to crystalize in the motor causing problems. While it does have 150k that would mean the motor is at its halfway point, the lower end is stronger than the V6.

And as you would now know MIKE, that the car came from a Lincoln dealership when it was New and was turned in there. Car is SHOW quality and twice as clean as mine. You know how older Lincoln guys drive and keep the condition of the car.

Pics and info will be available on the trader section when the work has been finished. I must pay the 10.00 to sell the car.

Illshoyou;
I am in MPLS which is too far from you. My SHO has 69k and is really nice.
I am expecting another child and I need another family transport vehicle (ie SUV)

I will sell it with all extras with warranty and ROUSH springs or I'll sell it stock. Email me off line if interested.

In fact, anyone email me if interested

"his '97 has 1.5 light years... I mean 150,000 miles."

Actually, light years are a bit longer than that... :)

"You know how older Lincoln guys drive and keep the condition of the car. "

So, if I buy that Lincoln LS, the darn thing will be clean more than twice a year? wink

pax, smn
(whose SHO actually is clean at the moment, having had its biannual trip to the detailer yesterday)
