Hey everyone,
My dad has an 89 SHO which has 98k on it. I have been bugging him for months to get the 60K service done on it, But he as refused to get the valve lash done, and everything else. Anyway he finally agreed today after i told him he would be buying 2 sets of new camshafts as opposed to 24 valve shims. His cams are wearing down as i type :(
I know this must be done to ensure reliablitly of the engine and to keep the performance there(**** yaa)....
Anyway i called the local dealer(Im in upstate NY, Saranac Lake). The dealer says they did the 60K job a few years ago and it was a total nightmare...to many screws to handle!!!(its a SHO thing), and said they wouldnt do it. THe next dealer has know idea WTF they are doing when it comes to SHO's so there off the list. There are know other dealers in the immediate area(3 hours) I guess my question is where should i have this done?
We have a great backyard mechanic that replaced the CPS a few months back and knows basically what he's doing...but should I really give him this job? Is it too complicated for someone that doesnt know SHO's?? I would really like to get this thing back into shape, but unfortunatly its not mine. WHere should i get this done? Are there any Ford dealerships that have specific knowledge when it comes to SHO's downstate?? Please any input would be greatly apprecitated...we dont want another awsome sleeper to bite the dust! shrug

thanks,
silas

I'm about an hr south of you, and do SHO work from time to time when I have free time. Will be pretty busy in the next few weeks though (finishing a 3.2L swap for a '90, and some tranny/clutch work in a '93).

Also check with Fred Hurder on this forum, he does 60k, etc work, he's over in central MA. If you want it done fast he might could get to it quicker than me.

Silas -
Mark's in Pottersville.

He's a LOT closer than I am to you (1 vs. perhaps 3-4 hours) to my place just west of Worcester MA.

I'm rescheduling my customers that have been waiting since we relocated the shop, so it'd be a few weeks for me as well. Mark's well worth waiting for, if you can get into his schedule.

If you want to discuss offline, feel free to visit www.neshospecialists.com and / or email me at [email protected] .

Mark, do you think in a few weeks after you get the engine swap done you we could maybe work something out? Let me know when/if you could do this.

thanks,

If the car has had regular oil changes, they are probably still fine.
Like mine was?

I can vouche for Mark, he does excellent work. Also, I was impressed with how neat he works. His tool box is so organized and everything has its place.

Pizza was good too!

zip lock baggies and a sharpie work wonders :) The 60k is only complicated the first time. I could do it in my sleep now. If you get a video it's even easier. Make yourself proud and save some money. You already have a SHO, now do the work yourself if you can :) Get a helms shop manual first.
