Hi GUys,

I'm about to start undertaking a 60 Maintenance on my 1994 SHO (81k miles) and I have a few questions:

1-What are the torque specs for the valve cover bolts? What can they be removed with, looks like a 5mm Hex?

2-What are the torque specs for the intake runners? Are gaskets required?

3-do I use a gasket cement when replacing the plug seal and valve cover gaskets? What about for the intake runners?

Any other things I should know about the upper (valve covers, plugs, gaskets, wires) that is tricky

Any help would be appreciated

Welcome to SHOForum!

I haven't yet done the upper 60K myself, so I don't have a lot of answers, but I do know that the valve cover bolts are 5mm allen type, that they should be torqued down to 9.8-16 N-m (7-12 lb-ft), and that you should be very careful not to overtighten them.

I'm sure some of the other guys/gals around here might have some more helpful information for you.

Good luck with the upper 60K.

You should really check into buying the 60k video from Josh over at WWW.Shonut.com. That video is great it will tell you everything you need to know... I used it on my 60k(upper and lower :D ) and it helped tremendously! Good luck.

Yes, gaskets are required for the intake runner to head connection. You can buy them from fordpartnetwork.com part #E9DZ-9439-A $12.49 each, you will need 2 of them.

Valve/cam cover bolts: 8-11 ftlbs

Intake runner to head bolts: 11-17ftlbs

Be careful tightining the bolts down though, they like to snap off. Just make sure they are all cleaned up really good, apply some anti-seize compound to the threads and you should be all set.

I don't see the need for gasket cement (RTV?) anywhere except maybe to help keep the plug well seals or valve cover seals in place. Or just use some grease out of a grease gun instead. Definalty NOT for the intake runners!!!

Jan,

I've sent you an email with some helpful upper 60k step-by-step instructions and a valve adjustment worksheet developed by a very helpful and knowledgeable SHOForum member named Scott Patterson (screen name sdpatt). They helped me a great deal when I did this work on my '94.

Hope it's as helpful to you! thumb
