I have a bone stock (as far as I know) 93 MTX w/ 195K miles, and ever since I got it, it takes 6 quarts of oil to bring it up to the full line. At 5, after starting it and letting it sit, it still reads exactly 1 quart low. I use a standard oil filter, and I know the engine is CLEAN. I had the valve covers off, and the inside only had a yellow tone that would wipe off easily. I can't figure it out. Maybe someone out here can help me.

I think I read somewhere that the capacity stated in the owners manual is not correct. So if it takes 6 quarts to fill it up, then that's the correct capacity.

I remember reading another poster here saying that he had an arguement about the oil level in his SHO at a jiffy **** type place. They seemed to think that the yamaha 3.0 and the SLO 3.0 were the same.

Guess they never drove one! :p

Don't forget those jiffy boob places usually advertise "up to 5qts of oil" for their standard oil changes.

If you are using the larger F1 Motorcraft oil filter you will indeed need 6qts.

6 qts puts me just past the full mark with the FL-1A filter. I believe the larger filter adds a bit more than a half qt to the capacity. So, with the itty bitty 400 filter a little more than 5 qts should do it.
