Hey guys I got my clutch put in like maybe a month ago it shifts fine and everything but when I get to fifth in high speeds it doesn't go as easily. I have to ram it in there b4 it will stay with along grinding. What could that possibly be when b4 the install, it was fine? shrug

Was the transmission opened for any repairs/new parts when doing the clutch job?

No problems with shifting between other gears?
Will it go into reverse easily?

If you had no issues before and nothing was done to the internals of the tranny I'd be inclined to say that you have a shifter issue. Could be that things weren't lined up properly on re-install...or something else related to the re-install.

If the tranny was opened up while when your clutch was serviced, you could have a damaged 5th synchro.

Word to the wise, don't force it in gear. You can damage your shifter that way or worse yet, something inside the tranny.

No the tranny wasn't opened when doing the install. Yes all the other gears are fine so is going into reverse. Only I have to pause going into 3rd gear but that's it. But 3rd was like that b4 I did the install just not 5th.

Assuming your car has not had the upgrade to the rod shifter, it's probably worth taking a look at the cable linkage at the transmission. It does sound likely to be a linkage problem. FWIW, when we did my clutch job, the remaining "piece" of the rubber bushing on the transmission shift bracket fell apart. Didn't take the time to do a replacement as the temps were falling fast and snow was blowing in the garage! However, this bushing does keep the cable from binding when making the shifts. I can feel it with my upward shifts but hasn't caused any grinding. Josh @ Shonut recommended the use of bulk ps hose as the replacement bushing. I've just been too lazy to crawl under there to fix it!

No I haven't had the upgrade to the rod shifter but do you think it will be wise? And do you think it will solve the problem?

You should definitely find the source of the current problem. The rod shifter does add a nice feel to the shifting. However, see the write up on shotimes.com regarding the conversion required to go from the current cable setup to the rod shifter. No sense doing the rod shifter just to attempt to fix the unknown problem at hand.

That's what I'm trying to figure out is what causing it and to what would be the first place to look. shrug
