538 - You either missed the timing window or did not hit the pedal aggressively enough.

116 - Engine not at operating temp or ECT unplugged or faulty.

When running the KOER test after the CheckEngine light flashes the cylinder ID for the car (3 flashes if I remember correctly) you are supposed to floor the accelerator. Just stomp it to the floor and let go.

The other code for the ECT probably suggests it's time to change the ECT sensor. Available at a local auto parts store for not too much $$, and pretty easy to change. Make sure you use tephlon tape on the new threads.

well the electronic coolant temp sensor code is most likely cause by the engine not being up to running temp...if the car was just started/was cold when you did the test, just ignore this code...

the other is because you didnt finish the test properly...re-read the instructions and try again...

You need it up to temp. The goose test is during the first 20 seconds after the 3 flash identifier. You also have to turn the steering 1/4 turn each way, and turn on/off the O/D cancel button if ATX, and tap the brakes. Then you won't get those squirrely codes. If you know they work, don't worry about them. I sometimes don't.
