Hi y'all.

Just changed the O2's and for some reason they gave me 4-wire O2's instead of the 3-wire ones. The car runs fine for about 30-45 mins, but then the CE light comes on, codes 172 & 176 (O2's lean).

Is this the O2's or something else, such as unmetered air getting in through a leaky gasket in the mass plethora of metal we have of an intake manifold?

first of all how did you get the 4 wire plug into the 3 wire plug and no they will not interchange. 2nd is your fuel pressure up to spec??? this could be a sign of a fuel pump on the way out the door. i don't think both o2 sensors would be going out at the same thime more than likely you have a fuelpressure issue or a vacum leak! check fuel pressure at startup and then again in about 30 -40 minutes of driving. should be close to the same. also fuel filter could be stopping up. if fuel pressure is ok then suspect vacum.

Well it fit just fine. Maybe Gen2's have different O2 harnesses compares to your car. My harnesses have 4 holes for leads, although only 3 have contacts in them.

Before the O2's were replaced the car ran just fine with just an intermittent O2 code being thrown by the ECU, 176 (RH lean).

The 4 wire are for ATX cars, the 3 wire for MTX. The ATX on a MTX will throw a CE light (as you obviously know now) :)

The same thing happened to me a while back, the auto parts store only had the atx number in the computer.

Since you're from the same area, I'll take a guess that you bought them at Canadian tire?

Actually, it is they who gave you the 4-wire O2 sensors who are dumb. In the future, you can protect yourself by looking up the part on their website database before going to the store to pick up the part. If they come up with the wrong part, you can question them on their look-up methods.

THX Scott.

As for the O2's, no they did not come from Cdn Tire. My set I bought last year were from Cdn Tire, and they failed in less than 8 months/10 000 km. I got my money back and got new ones at AutoPro.
