Hi Folks, can these cylinders be honed or bored? I have 2 scored cylinders, you can barely catch a fingernail in one. I'm wondering if it's worth repairing.

No pictures.

You should determine what caused the marking by inspecting the piston land area. It is doubtful but possible it ingested something.

I think it is worth repairing, but you have to do the parts pricing and learn the allowable piston to wall clearance. I am guessing you will need to get the bare block to a machine shop.

Take a hard look at the timing chain and all its accessories, and the water pump, while you are there.

It sounds like you would be able to do the labor, so that is a plus.

As long as you are providing the time, tools, and labor, it is worth getting into. Start paying someone else, it could expensive especially if the repair job does not hold up. Sounds familiar, LOL. Be sure that is the only problem, and no other structural flaws in the head, block, or rotating assembly exist.

Check online for a replacement engine at auto salvage places. You can find good deals out there. That's what I did when I put a 2015 engine in my 2010 Flex I didn't have a scored piston and cylinder, but I did have a spun Main in my original
