3.2 Conversion?

Ok, I'm thinking about converting my 3.0 into a 3.2 and I was just wondering. Would it be better performance wise to just do an all out swap with a 3.2 rebuilt motor.....or to convert my 3.0 into a 3.2. Also off the topic. Is there anywhere else I can get a reinforced differential thats not $1300.

Not much difference but Id convert the 3.0 to a 3.2. Easier in my mind. You can get a reinforced differential for $1200 :)

New to SHOs I have a '90 3.0 5 speed. Has a bad motor. I also have a '94 3.2 automatic bad tranny. Can I swap the motors?!

rebuilding your 3.0 into a 3.2 will be way way more expensive than getting a 3.2 and putting it in your mtx car.

Why is that? I thought you could use the 3.2 shortblock and rotating assembly and use the 3.0 heads, which would avoid having to make any modifications to the block.

1) What you just stated is not the definition of rebuilding a 3.0 into a 3.2.

2) You can use the 3.2 shortblock with the 3.0 heads, if you don't mind spending the money on head gaskets and head bolts.

3) Using a 3.2 longblock, it's the 3.2 heads that get modified. One chunk cut off to mount alternator, and holes drilled and tapped to mount the coil bracket.

Sorry, I didn't wiki it before I posted ;)

Seriously though, isn't changing the shortblock and using 3.0 heads is still a valid way of getting to 3.2l of displacement?

Yes, it is. If you don't mind swapping heads. You don't have to swap the heads, but you can if you want to.

that would be getting a 3.2 and putting it in your car, not rebuilding your 3.0 into a 3.2........

You do not have to modify coil pack position...i did not.

Nope, if you've got a 3.2L coil pack bracket, you can use it as-is. If you don't (or if you want to use your 3.0L coil pack bracket), you must drill and tap a hole or two in the head.
