is this a hard fix or a expensive fix on a sho? i might buy a 89 that has this problem

synchro = rebuild transmission to fix. And while you're down there you can bulletproof it with xtra parts (as bulletproof as it can be without a limited slip). Would probably run about $1,000 parts and labor altogether at a decent shop, which would include replacing other vitals for good measure. It may be driveable for a while in that condition, depending if the seller knows what their talking about.
