more rubber, more HP.....
Anyone out there successfully use a 275 or 265 wide tire on the SHO? These tires have a section width of 11 to 11.5 inches. This would require a minimum 8.5-9.0" wide rim.

I'm almost sure I can get them to fit in the front (they'd stick outside the fenders), but for the rears it'll require some serious body modification to get the fenders out of the way.

Yes, I'm nuts. I don't care what my car looks like anymore, I just want it to go faster.

Ive got 245/45/17 on some pr1.2s and the rear fenders rub, 40mm offset too so not far out of the fender, i think if you ran a 35 or 40 series profile and get the tire height down and roll the fender you might be able to fit a 265 or 255.

Really? I'm running 235/45/17s on mine with no rub issues. With some spacers, and enough fender rolling, I'm sure they'd fit, but even with the spacer, it'd be dang close. I believe Panama Pat runs 17x9s in front, and 17x8s in the rear, but not sure the tire.

245/35s on 19s here. No problems.

For the fronts you should be fine as long as the fender doesn't hit the tread or lack there of when it bottoms out. The rears I don't think there's even 10 inches between the strut and fender (so maybe a cutting wheel and some plastic bolt on flares are the way to go!! :thumb:)

FWIW, I just went out and measured. On my '90 there is 9.5in from the strut tube to the lip of the rear fender, if you roll the fender you can almost get 10 inches...

On the front you have about 10in.

A tire that wide would need a wheel offset that would result in massive amounts of torque steering. That's when the car, not you, decides when to change lanes. That might be acceptable in a rock crawlking Jeep, but unpredictable lane changes at road speed WITHOUT ANY STEERING WHEEL INPUT is kinda scary. Really sucks during hard braking too.
The problem is the struts are in the way. You can only go out, which screws with the offset between the tires true center line and the steering pivot axis.

Rode a 245/45/18 on my 97 for more than two months fully loaded with wife, kids (3) and groceries and not got so much as a slight scuff on the wheel wells. Also, take in consideration that I'm a 350lbs man...I think a 265/35 would work on the Gen 3s...probably wouldn't do wider than a 245 on a Gen 2 and 235 on the Gen 1 (the lack of a full rear wheel well warrants a thinner tire).
