Doubt it. A 245 is going to be a little bit wider than a stock tire. And with the little space that SHOs have to work with in their wheel well, I think you might have some rubbing.

The minimum width rim for most 245/50-16 tires is 7.0", so they should work. A 7.5" or 8.0" wide rim would be better though.

The section width of a 245/50-16 is very wide and you may have some rubbing problems on either the rear fender lip or the rear strut tube, depending on offset of your rims. You can also have a rubbing issue with the front brake lines during full lock turns.

half-way there, I think.
I could not make 245's fit under the rear of my 89' back a few years ago, even with a lot of trimming. I elected to step down to a 235's at the time.

Whatever gains you want to get by getting a 245 width tire will be erased by using such a narrow rim. Try a narrower tire or a wider rim.

You would be surprised how well the SHO can handle on 7.5" wide rims and sticky 225 width tires. boink

The reason I asked this is because my uncle has some 245/50zr/16 tires and I have an extra set of rims that need tires. I was just wondering if I would have problems running the tires on these rims: http://www.americanracing.com/appguide/final.asp?section=app&detail=1576731&descript=16X7+AVENGER+POLISHED+5X4%2E25&picture=157&make=FORD&model=TAURUS%2CS%2EH%2EO%2E+16+INCH+%2B42+ OE+OFFSET+1989%2DPresent&Comments=&softid=taursho&sort=3&brand=americanracing
Although it says they are 40 offset, it also says 42 above that because it is a special offset for the SHO.

Thanks,
Jason

I was just in an mtx sho with 235's and that was a strech. They rub slightly on cornering. 235's are more than enough grip for the SHO.

I know that, I am not getting the tires for added grip. I am getting them because they are free and right now I have 205/55zr/16 in the front and 225/50zr/16 in the back. I dont like that my speedo is thinking I am going faster than I actually am.

Jason,

You still haven't said whether you have a gen1 or gen2 car. Either way is going to be a stretch because of clearance issues with the struts (as DeaconBlue pointed out) or the fenders, depending on what the offset of the wheel really is.

My 225/55s on 7.5" wide wheels don't have much clearance to the strut tube. I wouldn't think a 245/50 would fit. You could always get one tire mounted on the wheel and see how it fit on the car. You won't be out the much $$$ and you'll see exactly why it won't fit if it doesn't.

They will fit but i wouldnt put them on. The added weight will in th long rung slow the car down. With 205/55 you would most likely get a better ET than with 245's stick with the ones you have.

Lance Cheney- Whoops, I though I did put my year, I have a 93 ATX.

SHO5- I am not drag racing my car, and if I was drag racing my car I would put the lighter slicers on along with the 225/50zr/16 dunlops in the front atleast.

My uncle has given me some good tires, the dunlop sp sport 8000's I have on my car at the moment are off of his 86 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa that he totaled at Gateway International Speedway. These tires are going to be off of his 86 Trans Am GTA because he bought new tires and new stock rims for it to sell it.

Thanks for all of your help,
Jason
