I replaced the osram 66340 lamp, and verified that fuse #78 in the power distribution box under the hood is good.

What's my next step, and how expensive (and/or labor intensive) is it going to be?

Swap the headlights left and right. The conector is the same pilot on both side.

If the lamp is still inoperative, swap the module bolted to the bottom.

This will tell you if you have a circuit, headlamp or module fault.

Am I going to have to pull the entire headlight assembly, or just the bumper cover?
Once the bumper cover's been removed, you'll have to remove the entire headlight assembly.

I have a "How-To" write up on the front bumper cover removal. Authored many years ago. Check the "How-To" section(s). I can link you to it if need be. Just LMK.

As far as the assembly itself, one bolt up top on the horizontal side of the assembly. One bolt below, at the face/front vertical side of the assembly. Then there's a guide pin on the farthest outer edge of the assembly.

Once the two bolts have been removed, you'll have to give it a gentle tug to dislodge it out of/from the guide pin area.

Good luck!9411a61b62d926e26dfb8d4bc0b29b0cA803cb04687bb03e38c8953e6e74648e3eae7d19928a56e95c55fa5b8b297579

I never cease to be amazed at the amount of knowledge that's on this forum. :hail:
Agreed!

I will add that we all "stick together" because it is very much a niche car/niche market, so it's important that we each contribute as we can.

Well, that went much better than expected. All done in a little over an hour.

EXCEPT...

Now it won't turn off. The only way I can shut it off is to pull the fuse. So it's just as good as not having it. *sigh*

Well, I just took it apart again to make sure I hooked up everything properly, and I'm now confident that I did.

At the headlamp conector the blue green is the signal wire to turn on the headlamp. The brown red is 12v constant power. Black grey is ground.
Now that I had it apart again, I tested this. 12v+ is constant, and 12v+ switched goes on and off with the headlight switch.

So I guess I replace the entire assembly along with the electronics inside it, now that I know the external wiring is working and it has a new ballast? Figures it'd end up being the most expensive part.

If you swapped the modules bolted to the bottom of the lamp then swapped them back. Yep you got the expensive part.

Do you guys know anybody in the community who has one of these to sell? Ford wants $700. Rockauto wants $500, but they can't/won't tell me if it's HID or not, which means probably not. Junk yards say they can order it for more than Ford's price. That kind of money for a part hurts my heart.

That's cheaper than what they used to be.

7yrs+ ago, Ford was asking $1,200 for them.

Each! Talk about ridiculous.

Aye yai yai.

I would check ebay, I've seen them from $300-500.
