I know this is a really broad question but I just purchased a 2013 Black SHO with 70k miles.
I pick it up Monday from the dealer.
Just was curious of any tips of things to look out for or even reliability in the higher miles. I bought the bumper to bumper maximum extended warranty just in case.
Any recommendations on a tune? I have researched some but curious on any experiences people had from here
Thanks!

Check for oil in the intercooler. Clean the MAP sensors. Both the one in the throttle body, and the one on top of the intake. My 2013 woke up a bit after cleaning them both at around 20K miles. And it relieved a slight surge at low-throttle.

ALSO - there is a PCM calibration update that cures a "no acceleration" issue. Step on the go-pedal like you're trying to pull out into traffic, and it just DIES for 3-4 seconds. Yours might not do this, mine was a VERY early 2013 (built early in 2012). But if you find yours does this, there is an updated calibration that cures it.

Also other various firmware upgrades. One for the GPS - the NAV could show you're way off from where you actually are, and one for the steering wheel tilt/extend memory - the steering wheel may not return to where you set it.

And, one last one. Sync 2 - what version is it at now?

Whose tune you choose could depend on how involved YOU want to be in the process. Livernois provides excellent plug and play tunes. They have had many SHOs in their shop and they know the ecoboost engine inside out. If you want a great tune with no fuss and no muss, you can't go wrong with Livernois.

On the other hand, if you want to work with the tuner to dial a tune in specifically for YOUR car and learn a lot in the process, AJPturbo does a great job. He starts out with a base tune and you would have to hook the tuner to your car, make some WOT runs recording the data and send that data to him. He would then tweak the tune and send it back to you. This logging/tweaking process could take place numerous times and he will explain what he is seeing and what he is doing after each revision. The process takes some time and obviously puts some wear/tear on the car and could expose you to traffic tickets since WOT runs need to be performed to higher speeds.

Another option for the datalogging/tweaking method is Unleashed Tuning. They have a good reputation but do not expect them to provide the dialog and learning opportunity about the tunes that you get with AJPturbo.

As for performance and safety, all three tuners are great but they get to the end result in different ways. If I had a 70,000 mile SHO that I wanted to drive and enjoy with minimal effort on my part, I would go with Livernois.

How reliable are the SHOs in the higher miles like over 100k? are they pretty solid as long as you stay on top of the servicing etc?

We would be glad to be your tuner of choice, we are well known in the ecoboost community and have built alot of impressive ecoboost cars inclduing the fastest taurus sho! These cars can pick up extremely well with just a few small modifications and our tunes are very easy to use and apply to the vehicle and we even include the stock file for your vehicle!

I have also just purchased a 2013 PP SHO,with 52k miles. I am very excited to own this vehicle.
Jim, did you pick up your new ride yet? I am interested in your experience.
My vehicle is a cpo. Does this help me out with the dealer cleaning the map sensors, oil change of the ptu?
Maybe I need to start a new thread, apologies if I am breaking protocol.
I’m really just curious what I really get in A CPO car. I’ve been browsing this site for a couple weeks, you folks on here seem to know your stuff.
Thanks for reading

I picked it up and I love it. I have owned pretty much every car you can imagine. I have serious ADHD with cars. I have had 7 Mustangs from Fox body to current body style, both series hummers, Tahoe, suburban, jeep, f250, f150, explorer, accord, pilot, Altima, focus.. you name it... And I LOVE the SHO... My favorite car so far. Its fast, tons of features, looks really good has plenty of room for the kids. So far so good.. I opted for a 4 years 48k mile extended warranty just to be on the safe side but I love the ride. Really glad I made the decision. SHOs are so hard to find as well most people haven't seen them and if they have it wasn't in person and are really surprised when they see it and it turns heads for sure !

I bought my 2013 PP as CPO and added ESP. So far I had an ABS sensor changed under CPO and the back up camera under ESP. No one near me really wants to touch the PTU, one dealer originally quoted $160 over the phone and then called me and said over $400 since they would have to remove a downpipe to get to it and didn't recommend it with the 40ish thousand miles on the car. I don't see them cleaning the MAPs for free but they are easily accessible and really a 5-10 minute job so if you are using the dealer for service it shouldn't break the bank. If you are just slightly mechanically inclined this is something you should be able to do yourself.

Thanks for the response. Great information all over this site. I have learned a ton. I will not be taking delivery of vehicle until the 10th of April. I bought mine in Phoenix and I live in St. Louis. I honestly cannot wait for the 1500 mile drive to the STL.
It seems as if my dealer is handling all of the fluid changes I have requested. Honestly, I think my salesman is getting tired of me requesting special services before I take delivery.
Thanks to all on this forum for arming me with knowledge of these cars.

The SHO is just an overall awesome car, the driveability is amazing, youve got the AWD for the rougher months, still gets good gas mileage with mods and terroizes the streets and alot of the v8s out with very little money spent in mods!

Fellas thanks for the info.
I am a reformed bronco addict. I have had more than I care to admit.
One of my huge regrets os selling my perfect 87 with many mods. Growing up sucks sometimes.
I pick my up my car on the 6th. Really having problems focusing on the rest of my life right now. It really is a great feeling.
I definitely plan on tackling the ptu fluid change and sensor clean on my own, as well as the other basic maintenance items.
Looking forward.
