Wondering if the SHO Performance is worth the purchase, is there much difference in the performance of the vehicle with that option?

thanks again

I've had both a PP and a Non-PP and the PP is geared towards someone who is a driver and whats to really drive the and race every now and then. The Non-PP is for people who want a fast DD, that is fun driver but will never really gets pushed to hard.

Here's what the PP includes:

Available SHO Performance Package:

*Upgraded brake components
*Higher-rated springs and tuned shocks
*Stiffer stabilizer bars and rear suspension
*3.16 final drive ratio for off-the-line acceleration
*20" machined wheels with painted pockets and performance summer tires*

All of these options will provide you with a quicker, more balanced driver's package. If you are looking for a strong driver's car, then the PP is a definitive upgrade-well worth the extra cost. However, if you are looking for a long-range "cruizer", with a comfortable ride, then the standard package would probably be the better bet. If you are interested in any type of performance use(ie: drag/auto-X/track-time), then the PP is a must have! Hope this helps. :salute:

Dont' forget the PP gets you better braking, steering and stability control with a "True Off" option.

I have a 2011 with the PP, and while the ride is not bad on the highway, it is rather harsh in town. It's a bit like the Dodge Stealth R/T twin turbo I had several years ago, possibly even harsher than the "comfort" suspension setting on that car. If I had to do it over again, I'd probably go with the non-PP car with the optional 20" wheels. I have not taken the SHO to the track (I have kids now) but did track the Stealth a few times. Maybe when I trade this one in for a 2015 model I'll go non-PP. ;) I might even have 20k miles on this car by then.

IMO, the '13 PP option is a MAJOR upgrade over the PP of previous years.

For me, I would get the PP and get a standard spare tire after the fact.

I've had a 2010 non-PP and traded it in for a 2013 non-PP around Thanksgiving. The brakes were not the best on the 2010, but Ford upgraded them for both PP and non-PP for 2013 and they are much better. If I tracked the 2013 more often (usually only at SHO Conventions), I'd probably have bought a car with the PP. My only complaint is I can't turn off the stability control, just traction control.

Only issue with full-sized spare is that it won't fit in the space saver spare tire well.

Ride in Oklahoma probably isn't an issue. In upper midwest, the roads have lots of frost heaves, especially in town.

Both models are "quick" when tuned. Steve, from Quebec is one of the fastest 2010 SHO's out there. Very low 12's! He also has a favorable track due to temps and being close to sea level.

Track down the parts from a Taurus with a full size spare....or a PD car. It's been covered in other forums .

IMO, the gearing improvement is the key issue across all years of the PP. For someone like me who changes brake setups, it won't matter, but the '13 PP upgrade improves stuff that the average backyard hack won't be improving.

Here are the parts you need for full sized spare:

Part #
Jack Mounting Bracket 1424
Wing Nut 1462
Jack 17080A
Jack Retainer 1A381

I've also found full-sized rims can be had through TireRack cheaply. Call and see if they have any closeouts/clearances on single rims.

To the naysayers that proclaim this won't work, it does. There is sufficient room to accommodate a full-size. When placing the carpeted cover over the rim/tire, the surface of the trunk is now flat.

Glenn

P.S. PM me if you want the dealer/pricing that I've found.
