Here is a sneak preview of the prototype 100% CF trunk I have been slowly working on most of this year. I would like to say first and foremost this is not a show car part and is a race car part built for the purpose of weight reduction, and as such only weighs 12lbs compared to the stock trunk assembly at 45lbs. Secondly this is still just the prototype and not what a production run would necessarily look like, as this has been a huge learning curve on my end in the composite part creation world but I hope to offer SHO specific trunks, hoods and fenders all from CF at some point once I am happy with the surface finish and have tested the parts at the track.

I would like to thank @802SHO, @DadMobile, & @Ecoboost_xsport for all the advise in regards to the finished product's quality as there were multiple times I wanted to throw in the towel when portions of the fiberglass mold and CF part process did not turn out perfectly on the first try.

Stay tuned for more pictures as this endeavor progresses!

Seems like a logical mod for the pure race guys that are chasing 10s. Weight is racing. I read that you are going to make fenders as well, If the SHO emblem is not eliminated on them, I would be interested.

I am in the same boat. I am not an all out race car so this doesn't fit exactly what I am looking for. I think it is an amazing job and looks fantastic. It also definitely fits your needs. I just wish there was more aftermarket coverage. I would love to replace as much as I can with carbon fiber and keep the stock appearance.

I can attest the work and skill required to do what you have done. If that isn't a multi piece mold, I would be surprised. The learning curve to CF and mold making in general is almost vertical.

Thanks man! It was actually a single piece mould, but I scrapped the gel coat portion of the process 3 separate times before I got it right at $85 a gallon lol. It def is a lot of steps to pick up on, but once you do it a few times you get the hang of it and learn what to not do.

Now this is just down right cool !

Impressive and reminds me partly of why I have fallen in love with not only my SHO, but more importantly the entire SHO community overall because of DIY projects such as this.

Always impressive seeing ingenuity and blazing trails occurring right in front of fellow owner's eyes!

Continued successes as the project keeps moving forward.

If you think your craft is honed, I would gladly send you and pay for you to replicate a sunroof and the quarter window on the rear door. I have bought cores of those pieces just for that. The glass of the sunroof is something like 19 or 21lbs. The rear door quarter window is pointless IMO and would take a light weight rear door to the next level.

Thank you sir! Appreciate the support, I’ll keep everyone in the loop as the other carbon fiber projects progress.

I would definitely be game for the sunroof plug, I was wanting to do that on my car as well.

DM me, we can talk about it. It would be cheaper in the long run for me. You already have the tools and such, plus I would waste a lot of CF, resin, FB etc etc trying to learn the process.

Please keep us updated on this. I am interested in this application as well. Personally, even more so if it was a direct replacement for the glass alone and was still functional.
