New to the forums. I'm looking at getting a 2013 SHO but I am concerned about reliability issues. The wife's car is a 2014 focus and I've had to replace the clutch like four times in the 100k miles we've had it so I don't want the same type of problems with a new car. Is there anything that I should know about before pulling the trigger? This example has 115k miles so it's there anything I should look for when I go see it? I tried searching the forum but haven't seen anything along these lines. Thanks for any info ya'll can share.

Service history private seller or car lot? No way to know what might be wrong unless it presents itself during drive and operating electronics. You could always pay for an independent tech to take a look at it if you know a good one. It's almost 10yrs old now so it's not a fresh used car. Forced induction and awd is more complex so more stuff can go wrong vs regular sedan setups. IF you pull the trigger and you don't have service history--all the driveline fluids need to be replaced (transmission, PTU, and rear Diff) and probably the coolant also. THe lifetime PTU fluid is bs and needs changed out. It overheats and gets all gummy and leads to failures.

Four times in 100K miles for a clutch? I have a tuned ST Focus with 155k on it, and it is still on the stock oem clutch.......

I wouldn't buy a 13 right now and I have a 13. I would spend more for a 17 at the minimum to avoid what you are worrying about.

My SHO is my third Taurus I've owned, 2013 SEL, 2015 Police interceptor sedan, and now 2018 SHO. I would go to with a 2016+ on a SHO. In my experience, so far it's ptu seals are guaranteed to eventually leak, water pump failure for me in SEL and police were both 140,000 miles plus on each. Other than that, these cars really can take a beating, I dogged my police sedan daily, they really can take it. Tranny is original too at currently 179,000 miles on police sedan. I believe what saves me is change fluids, change fluids and change fluids again. My SHO gets an oil change at 3,000 miles and ptu is every 10,000. I run 4 quarts of ULV in my tranny and have so now for 7 months and zero issues. Seems to shift smooth, since fluid can move a little quicker through tranny with lower viscosity. Anything to help tranny live a little longer.

And on your focus, Ford really screwed the pooch in that tranny. It's a dry clutch design. Was destined to fail.

have found that PTUs and RDUs have a higher failure rate in 2013+. in any case, you will want to buy a MY where you can get Ford Protect plans on the vehicle, especially if you are not a DIY'r. plus you want Sync3 not Sync2, tho you can DIY the upgrade.

One thing to add to, since it's age, be a good idea to pull out MAPs and give them a good cleaning.

One thing to keep in mind... if you favor the multi-contour seats (with massage) they were not available in some of the later years. I love mine for longer trips.
I have a 2013 non-PP with all the bells and whistles, and only 52K miles. No issues, other than battery. I plan to give it to my daughter, who currently drives a EB Flex with at least 130K miles. It's been beat and still starts every day, although it has had it's share of issues.

I have beaten the crap out of it for 70k miles. That we with an e30 tune as well. It is holding up nicely.

The focus had numerous recalls and problems with the dual clutch automatic with seals leaking and contaminating the clutches. You won’t have that with the Sho. The PTU fluid change you will have to do yourself or someone you know who can as Ford will mot in most cases. Otherwise enjoy
