new to SHO...picked up a 2010 and seems to be a delay for the turbo, to spool up, if floored...is that normal? rolling on the gas is smooth; but for the turbo to drop on, there is a .5 to 1 second hesitation...also i came from a cvt trans...so now it feels as if the shift through gears is a little rough...normal?

thoughts?

educate me!

:munch:

love the whip so far.

Probably time to change the plugs. Boosted motors seem to eat them for lunch. Motorcraft sp534s gapped at 0.035 for un-tuned, 0.030 for tuned. I'd start there.

well i think what you mean is when your in auto cruising at 20-30 mph and you hit the gas it takes that long. I believe its just the computer trying to figure out if your going balls to the wall or just a smooth acceleration. If you want to get the nice feel id just switch to M and downshift 2 gears and you will get the responsiveness you want.
A tune would most likely fix this as they seem to be able to tune it out as a poster said before.

id recommend changing the plugs for sure i had problems right away i basically have the same car and mileage you just got. the plugs we got installed from factory arnt to great and in some cases can even damage the engine cause the tips fall right off (rare). It takes a long time to get use to how this car moves cause it gets 350 tourque almost ass soon as you hit the peddle so the tranny can really milk those 1500-2500 rpm bands and get adequate acceleration.

but without a tune id say your only fix is to launch from a stop or toss it in paddle mode.

p.s Whenever i watch the show top gear and they mention (flappy paddle gearbox) almost always the mention its kind of clunky around town. i notice the 2nd to 3rd shift can be really clunky.

^great info. Thanks. Ya seems sluggish in 2 to 3 but beyond that it's good to go. I can swap the plugs out for good measure. Or would that have been done since it's a cpo purchase? Anyone got a tutorial or link?

Dont intend on racing and shit but when I want to hammer it, want the responsiveness. Being turbo don't expect perfect but I just want to make sure there are no underlying issues.

I've driven CVT in the rental cars during business trips. Don't like them. Guess I'm old fashioned and like to feel the gears/shifts. Prefer a manual, but that's a dying breed and another story.

My 2011 didn't seem to shift harshly to me, however I noticed the 2-3 change seemed to engage and then drop a few hundred rpm it seemed. Not really slipping, just odd. I mentioned the TSB on the transmission to my dealer, noting that the TSB said if it was done wrong there could be 2-3 "flair". Dealer said the TSB wasn't done to my car previously, but the checked it out (supposedly) and the pressures were not 'right'. Thus, they performed the TSB. They had the parts and took about 4 hours. Too early to tell yet, but seems better.

I've also read that since our throttle is drive-by-wire that contributes a little to the every so slight delay in response. Not sure what all the tunes do, but guess some of that is manipulated too with the tune.

As a side note, leaving the dealer, I heard a pop and thought 'oh ****...'. Heard the turbo wheezing and waaay down on power. Brought back to the dealer right away and was simply a turbo pipe popped off. Not sure if they had to remove any of that to do the TSB, but I guess they didn't secure it well enough.

Maybe have your dealer see if the TSB applies to your car and test your tranny.
