I have a 93 SHO with an ATX. I was in the middle of changing the valve cover gaskets and doing a tune up when I saw the inside of the intake manifold. It was lined with 2-3mm of carbon build up. I just didn't feel right about installing it with all the carbon in the intake like that, so I dismantled it and had a local machine shop steam clean it for me.

Now I'm ready to put it back together. So my first question is if there are any torque specs for the runners and secondaries of the intake. I keep finding the specs for the twelve 10mm bolts, but can't find any other specs.

Second question is, why can't I see any difference between the 4 intake mounting brackets??? I read that one is supposed to be different where the ground strap bolts to the intake. I lost track of which one goes where because I thought they were all the same when I took it apart.

Thanks.

It's pretty obvious that the bolts are different, and I was getting kind of frustrated. I must have misunderstood what I read. Thanks for that quick reply

Don't forget that when you are installing the butterfly housing to large runner, you must have the coupler facing the right way. The couplers are directional, meaning that the deeper side goes towards the butterfly's.

I didn't realize couplers had different depths, thanks for that advice. Any insight to the torque specs on those butterflies though???

Remember to leave the intake assembly loose (but together) before you install it back on the cylinder heads. After its fitted and bolted down to the engine, go ahead and tighten the couplers down and install the support arms. This will make it much easier to fit because it will be maliable.

As as tightenting the butterflys to the surge tanks of the intake just use a hand wrench and get them nice and tight by hand. As you probably noticed you're not going to be able to get a socket on many of those nuts to be able to use a torque wrench. So just get them nice and tight by hand but you don't need to tighten the crap out of them at the same time.

Like was advised earlier - you want to get them nice and tight - but not as to get them too tight as strip them. Some of the bolts you will have to use open end wrenches to tighten, because you won't be able to get a socket on them. When I did mine I torqued them around 15lbs, then tightened the ones with the open end as close as I could.
