2/91 upgrade?

Why did ford change the brakes in 2/91? How are they better? I just "downgraded" my 92 to 90 brakes, spindles, struts for several unrelated reasons including stripped caliper mounting holes and bad hubs but dont see how the newer brakes are better. The rotors are offset differently as well as the spindles i think but why? they are the same diameter.

I may be wrong, but I thought that the brakes were all the same up to through the '93 model year. I know that the front brakes will interchange between a '90 SHO and a '93 GL. I have been using my '90 SHO hand-me-downs on my wife's '93 GL for some time.
