Like I've said before, if the tire were made thin enough you could have 22" rims on a SHO as long as your total wheel diameter was around 26"-27", what truly matters for rim fitment is fit/offset/bolt pattern nothing else.
About the 19" comment of ride comfort it's all what you get used to and how you drive, if you choose to drive like everyone else on the road and just ram *** holes and don't care then stick with 17's or Slicers, now if you care about your "hot" 19's or bigger and actually drive cautiously by paying attention to the road you're all set. Just as an example I had the 18's on my SHO for about 2yrs with a fair amount of lowering, drove through 2 NE winters and lots of salt with minimal nick's from road debris and NO warping, denting, etc to my rims on 235/40/18 Pirelli's, same with my 19's on my TL-S with a 3" drop and 235/35/19.
Basically IMO rims that are 18's or bigger on 40series and lower tires should not be on cars that are driven by owners who drive them like they were driving just any other car because any car with our SHO's age and 18's or bigger, especially a Taurus isn't just any other car when you drive them with 18+ rims.
