After seeing Tim's car with 19s I began to think 'I need 19's.' Will 19's fit under a Gen 2?
I was thinking my best bet if they did fit would be to get rims and tires, then lower the car onto those rims to prevent rubbing and what not.

I don't think you will have a problem. I have seen 20's on a gen 2. You just have to have the correct offset.

Stick to a 38-40mm offset and you should be fine. Depending on how wide the wheel is and what size tire you use, you could also probably fit up to a 42mm offset.

I've been told an 8 inch rim will fit with a 35mm offset, if I remember correctly. Tim is running 19x7.5, So I'm guessing something in the 38-42 range would be what i'm looking for.

A 8 inch rim and 35mm offset will have you wheels sticking way out of the wheel wells, and probably rubbing in the back.

No, you won't. That's what my last set of 17" MOMOs were. 8" wide and 35mm offset.

If it fits in a Gen I, it will most certainly fit a Gen II.

Why are you questioning me?
I want 19's because everyone either has slicers or 17's. I want to be different, I want people to look at my car and say 'those aren't 17's, thats awesome.'
And I dont see why you would be asking why I would get rims then lower it, because thats clearly explained.

More power to you! thumb I thought the same thing after seeing Tim's car. When he mentioned how little they weigh in one of his posts, it made me want them even more!
FYI: I bought my Fittis about 7 years ago for $575 each ! Back then 18s were the biggest thing around and WAY to spendy.

Well, I stand corrected. Listen to the man with experience.

I would say lower the car to where you want it then put the biggest wheels you can on!

If you must for 20's (like me) then drop the car where you want it then get the 20's and do whatever it takes to make them fit. Thats what doing custom work is all about, if it doesn't fit make it fit!

Diggin up my own old post here.
Is there any reason these wheels wouldn't fit on my car? I e-mailed the guy about the offset becuase its not clearly stated, but I'm guessing its either 35 or 45. And yes, I know they're heavy.

Edit: Offset is 35mm

That offset will cause some issues because even on my TL-S that recommends 42-47mm offset I was close with a 19x8.5/45mm/235/35/19 tires.

But yes with 35mm they will stick out from the front and rear would be about flush with the fender.

If you were to go with a 40mm offset and that 8" width(235mm tire) it would look like this(width wise):
Sho35

Anything more and will fit but cosmetically wouldnt look pleasing, from what I see in that auction you'll 19's cheaper than I paid for my damn 18's on my old SHO good find. I also agree with you about everyone else buying 17's or "upgrading" to slicers and t-bird wheels, my 18's were to be different back 2yrs ago and just like your doing, this summer my SHO will roll on 19's.

BTW here's a Gen III SHO on 20's(bad choice of rims IMO)

While not the smoothest route to go, my 235/35 19's with coilovers, full poly bushings, alum SFB's, solid end tubular rear control arms, and SFC's is not really too rough. Just got to stay on decent roads.

ri-sho, lol i know we have this decision everytime someone brings up rims size. but how can you say 35mm off set (with 8" wide rim) will set out to far? this quote should prove it works.

even the v8 sho site show that numericaly to use a 8 inch wide rim on the sho the optimal off set would be 32mm-35mm. not starting a fight, seriously, i'm just not sure where your figures come from. shrug

edit: i guess you said it would work just stick out to far. sorry about that. i'd love to see pictures of 35mm offset rims on a sho

SMOOTH roads?? Man, do I wish that.. do you know what the salt does to the roads?? I will be leaving my slicers on untill they pave....

Like I've said before, if the tire were made thin enough you could have 22" rims on a SHO as long as your total wheel diameter was around 26"-27", what truly matters for rim fitment is fit/offset/bolt pattern nothing else.

About the 19" comment of ride comfort it's all what you get used to and how you drive, if you choose to drive like everyone else on the road and just ram *** holes and don't care then stick with 17's or Slicers, now if you care about your "hot" 19's or bigger and actually drive cautiously by paying attention to the road you're all set. Just as an example I had the 18's on my SHO for about 2yrs with a fair amount of lowering, drove through 2 NE winters and lots of salt with minimal nick's from road debris and NO warping, denting, etc to my rims on 235/40/18 Pirelli's, same with my 19's on my TL-S with a 3" drop and 235/35/19.

Basically IMO rims that are 18's or bigger on 40series and lower tires should not be on cars that are driven by owners who drive them like they were driving just any other car because any car with our SHO's age and 18's or bigger, especially a Taurus isn't just any other car when you drive them with 18+ rims.
