Hello,

I just bought a 1997 sho and the engine had to be replaced.
So I put in a 99 sho engine and continued to use the old 97 wire harness.
Everything is fine for now, but when I go to start it, it cranks over then it shuts down. Now someone mentioned that it might be the pcm key that could be the problem. Since I just replaced the engine needed to know if I:

-need to re program the keys
-check for something else

If anyone could help, it would be great.

Also, if anyone knows how to get manuals on sho cars would be another thanks.

you should post this in the Gen III section, Gen I and Gen II have a different motor, and quite different design than gen III, Gen I and II go from the years 1989-1995, gen III is 1996 to 1999.

perhaps a moderator can move it for you, if not, click edit, then delete, and the thread will disappear, then repost it into the GEN III emergency section....

I've got a '99 engine in my '97. No problems as you describe. I did keep my '97 harness.

Is the car loosing fuel or ignition?

You can download manuals here. www.fordcds.com

It's most likely a disconnected connector somewhere, or just an error swapping the harness over. Time to double and triple check your work.

We swap these motors every day and are in MA, and if you don't want the new motor to blow up you should get your cams welded: http://www.nesho.com

post update: starting problem

Hey!!! everybody!!!

It was the PCM chip!!
during the install of the new engine, my mechanic and I were using the wrong
key. I was using my spare instead of the original(the one with the chip inside the black key).
Everytime I would go to start the car it would idle for a second then shutdown.
Then I tried the original and it started right up.

Thats awesome people, its craaaazy!!!

Also, anyone know of any good sho shops in Ma.
just in case I need a part or specialist??

You do yourself a huge favor and get over to Spencer MA (NESHO) like Mr. Anonymous said.

They are hosting a swap meet there on the 28th of this month, which presents an excellent opportunity for you to meet not only them but other like-minded enthusiasts from your area.

Glad you got your car figured out!
