I just got a 95 SHO ATX and the tranny is gone and I have a couple of questions.

What is the best solution, pull tranny and get it rebuilt or go to the junkyard and pull one and replace the broken one in the car.

BTW the engine runs great but when you put it in any gear it does nothing.

Unless the junkyard's around your place are different with SHO's and stuff, I say go for the rebuild. Yard's charge high prices for crap like a transmission and don't give warrenty. I had a really hard time finding a place to rebuild my tranny, only two places out of the Yellow pages would do it.

Rebuild I say, but that is just me maybe?

I hate to hear that. Hope you get your transmission troubles fixed, if you haven't yet, run a search on "ATX rebuild". That would give you a few different options. I myself am just not happy with my ATX at all.

Mine goes in tomorrow to get rebuilt, to the tune of around 3k..it ain't cheap. But, I am having it "messed with" a bit while it is in there :D . If you have enough $ I would give Doug Lewis at FPS a call, he builds the best ATXs for the SHO.

The '95 is the best ATX from any year SHO, you're best off getting the unit in your car rebuilt. If you want the best, check out Doug Lewis at FPS in Atlanta, Georgia. Check the forum sponsors page, I believe there is a link. They don't give much info on their site but you can call and talk to them more about it. There are Supercharged ATX's out there, and most, if not all, run Doug's tranny.

Another source that you might want to consider is Jasper Racing. They build a good, stout unit and back it up with a 3 year/75,000 mile warranty.

Or find an independant tranny shop, and have him rebiuld yours and use a transgo go calibration/lubrication kit.

Try to stay away from the chains like amcco, and airport.

Sorry to hear about your luck...seems we both have similar problems. My transmission let go a little over two weeks ago now and I've been dealing with the same problems.

At first I was offered a used transmission with only 70,000 miles on it out of a wreck from a friend for $400. It turned out that this transmission also had problems (large metal pieces in the pan) so luckily they are going to buy it back from me.

So then I decided on a rebuild with the transgo lub and recalibration kit installed. This is going to cost me just under $3,000 with taxes and a 1 year warranty.

Any route is not cheap...if you plan on keeping the car, get it rebuilt and done right. If you plan on selling it right away...maybe think about just tossing a used tranny in there and hoping for the best.

Good luck!

Is that $3000 CDN? I hope so!

My '93 ATX cost me $1700 to rebuild at 128k miles a few years back. They upgraded all the internals to the latest standards, installed a shift-kit, and gave me a 2-year/24k-mile warranty.

Thank for all the info guys. I plan on taking out the tranny myslef and bringing it to the tranny shop for a rebuld. What should I expect to pay for a regular tranny rebuild, no extra, just a stock rebuild.

I plan on selling this car after I get it moving again so I just want the tranny back together.
