On my way home form work I decided to do a hard pull to 6500 1-3 gears fhen my battery light came on and stays on at idle and shows voltage drop but rev up and it will go out after a few sec. charging at 14.8 volts. Did I mess up brushes? BTW 200k and original Alt. Can I get a rebuild kit for it?

Thanks,

Mike

alternators do not have brushes, generators do.

every time I have seen an alternator light on one of these cars, the alternator needed rebuilt/replaced.

yes, you can get a rebuild kit, it costs about the same as a rebuilt alternator. the only ones that I have found that are worth buying are the NAPA lifetime warranty ones.

I've had good luck getting them rebuilt at a small local battery shop. Much cheaper than a rebuilt, and easier than doing it yourself! There are apparently two different regulators, and I've had issues if they don't use the motorcraft one (I forget what kind the other is).
