I hope its ok to post here, I did not see a forum for the v6... Anyways I hope someone with more experience with a sho can give me some advice, because I do not have alot of money to guess at buying parts.

There first is no engine light coming on... so that to me makes it a guessing game..

What is happening is after driving it for a while the car will just die... then after setting a while it will start back up and drive a while longer then die again.

I thought this was a ignition coil problem cause when it happen i checked to see If i was getting any fire and there was no fire on the spark plug wires

so I replaced the coil... and it started right up after that... but it is doing the same thing again.

I have read where a cranshaft sensor if bad will cause the plug wires not to fire? but what about the camshaft sensor if it also is bad will it keep the plug wires from firing?

and if either one will prevent the car from firing though the plug wires.. if one is not all the way bad will it be able to fire after setting a while and run a while before It dies again?

could really use advice cause these parts are not cheap.

Thank you.

this is the wrong place try Gen I/II but...
my first guess would be crank position sensor behind crank pulley and below water pump
with a bad cam position sensor the car will try different options and usually start by at least the third try. if you think thats your sympton the cam sensor is much easier to replace and worth a try

Gen 1/2 questions go in the " Help and Maintenance, Gen 1 & 2" section. Click on the SHOforum home button and you can't miss it. As for the sensors, I had my camshaft sensor go once and the car never died on me. It would be difficult to start and when it did sometimes the Tach wouldn't respond, but I never cut out while driving. And the crank sensor is well know to cause the car to cut out while in motion. I've never personally dealt with a bad crankshaft sensor, though. Finally, if the car cuts out then of course there might not be any spark to the plug wires. An engine needs 4 things to run, spark/fuel/air/compression. Lose anyone of those and it won't work.

typical symptoms of bad crankshaft sensor. it is very rare that the cam sensor will cause the engine to die, and when it happens it is nearly always accompanied by bucking and tach bouncing around. however, the bad crank sensor will just randomly cause the engine to die, and in many cases letting it cool down will allow you to start it and drive it a while again.
