I became the second owner in 1997 with 33,000 miles. It now has 207,000 mi. but is still a great runner. I’ve own it for 15yrs and have always changed the oil every 3,000 mi. using only Motorcraft brand oil filters.
A year ago the right rear strut rod rusted out and came apart while driving in the grocery store parking lot. I had it towed home but I decided it was time to buy a new car and left it sit in the driveway. A month later I replaced the strut rod and bushings but since then, it has a clunk in rear when going over bumps and it pulls to the right (needs alignment). Every month or two I’ve been driving it around the neighborhood to keep it loose.
Over the last 60,000 mi I’ve had the following replaced: Timing belt ( w/ tensioner), water pump and thermostat, rear lower control arms ( SHObros fully adjustable arms), valve cover and intake manifold gaskets, ignition module, crank position sensor, climate control panel (updated hard button model), starter, and alternator. It has a black interior. The driver seat bolster is a little worn but the rest of the interior is in very good condition. The seats have leather sides w/ cloth centers . It still reliably starts and runs great and would probably make a good parts car.
This is everything else I know to be wrong with it: tires are bald, cruise control is inop, a/c is inop ( looks like o-ring is leaking), oil leak coming from cam position sensor area, occasionally the check eng light comes on with a intake air temp sensor code, I don’t use the parking brake because if I do the left rear caliper stays engaged, rotors are rust pitted from sitting so it doesn’t brake great but still stops, and there’s rust developing through the body in various areas.
This is my second SHO and am sad to let it go. I would like for another SHO enthusiast to either restore her part or her out.
