This has to be a labor of love or tackling a challenge. The size of the user base has always been too small to count on making alot of $$. Just a numbers game.
A bit of both. I've never started on a project with the idea of making money. Some people like jigsaw puzzles, I like my "puzzles" to involve tools. The first real part I modeled up when I got my first 3D printer was a replacement main gear for my 2011 SHO blend door motor. I probably spent 5 hours total modeling that and another 3 hours figuring out how to print it. This was even after I bought a replacement from the dealership for $23.
While this still sounds like a fun project, it sounds like I'm far behind the curve though if someone else is planning to start selling a tested replacement option within a couple of months though. I no longer have access to a Gen 1 or a Gen 2 to perform fit and performance checks on.
