1991 with 99 motor and 5 spd help

Hey guys not sure this is in the right section. However if I need to move it let me know.

I own a 1991 Taurus SHO that I purchased from Windsor Ontario the gentleman who had built the car didn’t chat much his son sold me the car and I didn’t get to chat much. I bought the car as a nonrunning car it has an adapter plate to keep the 91 transmission them in place. After some messing around I got the car running enough to pull it into my shop and let it sit. I was aware that the car had been stored with the previous owner with zero fuel in the system and I most likely had a bad fuel.
I pulled the car back out of storage and I have now got it running after putting a new sending unit pump filters and tank car runs great but I ran into the same problem that I did a few years ago when I got it running the car will not rev over 4700 RPM in any gear I’m assuming this has something to do with the automatic ECU thinking it’s either in neutral or park. I need some information on anybody who’s ever done one of these swaps or some help in diagnosing what wrong in relation to the gear sensor ! I need to find The wiring for the range sensor. I did quickly look under the hood last tonight to see if a gear sensor was wired in and possibly positioned in one position however there’s nothing there. Perhaps bypassed ??im thinking maybe the gentleman never finish this project. Any help is appreciated I’ll attempt to add some pictures.

I am thinking you are right. Does it run well up until the rev limit? Do you have a wiring schematic for the GenIII harness? I assume the wiring harness and computer was swapped into the old car?

If you can't find the wiring to the range sensor or the gear select info, you might be able to have it tuned out or bypassed that way? I don't know what is involved with tuning that model year. It is OBDII which should open up options for tuning vs the older cars.

These should have factory repair manual instructions and wiring diagrams/schematics. They are dvd not paper manuals.

Great info thanks. I will start to have a look at schematics. I think the answer will be flashing the ecu. It basically has both ecus in this car sorting it out is fun

Oh jesus. You are a better man than I if that is the case. Sounds like fun to drive, but I wouldn't want to diagnose or decode a frankencar.

Yes the pest part is the guy that built the car did answer any of my questions so I have to figure it out lol one step at a time I guess. Motor runs very well shifts good and it’s a solid busy under oiled it whole life. I just need a sunroof headliner which may be hard but it’s a pretty neat car.

It certainly is. Very cool but very much a puzzle. It runs great. I actually just bought a third hen so it will help I’m sure. Always aside seeing a v8 car. I’m assuming they have both ecu’s running in this car. So it really is a head scratcher.

Nice. Im all about Frankenstein..ing cars, they are always a headscratcher when not running right. Did a 350 ram jet in my 94 astro awd while keeping it awd, currently doing an ls3 in a miata. Did a custom caddy 500 build for my 76 sixty special, no headache there though as there is almost no electronics. Hope all gets running well for it, just gotta put work into it but once it gets going good it would be a good show car and cruiser with some v8 sound.

Thanks man it definitely is different. Lol I had traded it for a nice stock one but borders shut down has killed that. So may as well tinker with it
