Does anyone know whether or not a multi-function switch/turn signal switch from 1990-up will work with an '89? From what I've seen they were redesigned in 1990 WRT how the wiper switch works. For '90-up you rotate clockwise through intermittent to lo then hi. For pre-90 you rotate clockwise for lo then to hi, and counter-clockwise for intermittent. If the connectors, pinouts and electrical sematics are the same, I don't see why it wouldn't work. However if any of those are off I can understand why it won't work. I'm just having a hard time locating an exact replacement and the dealer wants $230! I can find 1990-up replacements all over eBay and similar sites... Just no pre-'90 versions, used or otherwise.

FWIW, I think the '90-up design is far more intuitive and have always thought the '86-'89 wiper switch design was silly. I'd rather replace it with a '90-up version if it will work.

I'll probably have to start calling the local salvage yards to see if they have anything earlier than '90.

Yeah, it's tough to find those 89 switches. I've put 5 on my SHO and they all fail in the same way. Is there any way to reinforce the clip inside that cancels the blinkers?
