Thanks for your help and what are you all getting mpg?

More specific? Highway or city?

If city.. that's normal. Most people I have spoke to get around 15-19. Myself getting ~18 usually and some people/most around 16-17.

Don't forget these things qualified for cah for clunkers because of lower average MPG. I bet 19 is average for most users unless your average drive is predominantly highway miles. If your mileage has dropped noticeably maybe your tranny is slipping a little.

If your car is telling you something is wrong, why would it be your first assumption that is not the problem? Post the code if you got it.

As many have already stated, 19 is not that out of the ordinary if you are not doing a whole lot of highway driving.
Some common causes of low gas mileage also include lead-foot, presence of 8-cylinders, and hard braking.

Do you even have a Gen 3? Anyways the code he pulled said it was a TPS but never gave me the code...

Thanks for your inputs.

Jerry

I'm assuming "he" is you mechanic. If he doesn't have the car anymore take it to almost any auto parts store, they will read the code for free and give you a print out.

A TPS problem could definitely impact gas mileage. I am still not sure if you are doing mostly city or highway driving though.

Nope, mostly inner-city driving. I drive time-to-time on the highway but not for long. The only time I've taken the car on the trip I was doing 70-75 with no A/C no cruise control and I was seeing 28-30mpg on the highway.

I average around 14 in town. I've seen as low as 12 & as high as 17. Steady state cruise on the hwy @ 75 between here & Laramie, WY was 25.5. (uphill - Laramie is over a mile high, IIRC) Got 26 on the way back.

<---- Heavy throttle foot around town. :p

And 10% ethanol gas. Probably makes a little difference.
