SHO Pilot, Retired
Well, yesterday I decided to start my 60k with doing all the gaskets and plugs and wires that I needed to do. It was obvious that at 181,000 miles, this was the first time that the intake was coming off, with hoses that would just shatter they were so old.
Uh oh.
I started with the intake runners and the butterflies. I went through 4 cans of Berryman's B-12... and still didn't finish. There's still one runner set that needs to be done. I then pulled and cleaned the cover bolts. They are spotless, with no rust at all on them! Except the shorter bolts off to the side. Throughly impressed though! When I pulled the valve covers tho...
...oh man I wish I had a camera on me. The valvetrain was SPOTLESS!!!
The cams had NO wear at all on them, and everything was clean! No sludge anywhere! Which is amazing, considering that by all accounts...
THIS WAS THE FIRST TUNEUP THIS CAR HAS EVER HAD.
The platnum plugs that were in there, were nubs. The gap was like infinity or something. The wires were in good shape, considering, but were oil soaked, seeing as how all the plug wells had oil that was above the top of the plug. Maybe my oil consumption will go down now?
But the thing that had me most impressed was the valve lash measurements. Nothing was at the tight end, but everything was in spec! Amazing! 181,000 miles, and everything was looking great!
So, after I spent 40 minutes wrestling the intake back in place and getting it bolted down, she fired up the first time, and runs pretty good. I didn't get a chance to really open her up, since the second coming of the great floods began last night, but I'll definitely post back with the change in performance.
