Although I love the M3 rims I have, I'm always looking at different wheel options.. I was looking at these: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7933599078&category=43958
but in the staggered size. The fronts would be 18x75., and the rears would be 18x8.5. What modifications would I need to do these, and also has anyone else ever done them? I think the fatter lip in the back would look pretty damn sweet, but I'm open to opinions! I dont know if I would og with this exact style, the lighter the better and i would rather a charcoal or a gunmetal center, but I'm just thinking about options is all, I think the wider stance int eh back would look great. no flames, just opinions wanted! :)

I have 18X8 all around and in the back they rub if i hit hard (and is because my car is lowered by 2" in the back) so thats not often plus those seem like really heavy rims ... you will mess up or wear out your suspension really quick. YES! fater lip would be better ... http://www.shoforum.com/showthread.php?t=27177 :thumb:

This is a front wheel drive car - why try to make it look otherwise?

Fitting wider wheels in the rear is gonna be tough. 8" is very tight, even with the fender trimmed.

I wasnt looking at that particular model 18" rim specifically, I just thought the wider stance would look sweet on a SHO, wider in rear, (8.5s and 7.5s in front). I love the look of the M3s as well, only thing is, I might want to go to an 18" rim..
SHOWYA, what is the offset on the rims you have, and actually are you going to be selling the ones you have? (PM me). Thanks! And what rubs when you hit hard, the tire on the inner fender lip? I had to trim some out of mine already due to the 30mm offset for the M3s, so that may take care of it anyways, right?

Wider wheels in the back will increase understeer dramatically. Not to mention, it would look silly on a FWD car.

its a 40mm offset, not sure if i will be selling them soon ... but i will once i move up to 19x8!

What rubs is the edge of the outer toe on the tire very minimal though. But once it hits you han hear it on the inside. I been riding on these for almost a year and no damage that would compromise the fender well or the tire itself. very slight yet very audible rub.

I have 17X8 with 235/45ZR-17 97W on my 1991 SHO. I had to roll the rear fenders so the tires won't get sliced by the fender lip. I also had to trim some of the plastic at the front of the driver's rear fender to take care of some rubbing. When I hit a big dip in the road and my suspension completely compresses, I still get a little rubbing in the front and rear.

i have 235/45/17s on my 17x7.5s that i have on there now, and the 30mm offset made it so i had to trim a little bit on the outer fender lip, but I want to go to an 18 now, even if it isnt a set of staggered ones.. What are my options, for a lightweight, but somewhat inexpensive set?

I could not find any lightwieght 18"X8 wheels. All were more than 22 lbs. The reason why I got the 17" OZ Racing wheels were that they wieghed less than 17 lbs each and were 8" wide. My main priority was wieght. Looks were secondary for me.

There isnt many manufacturers that sell inexpensive lightweight wheels. I found some 19X8.5 that are 19lbs a wheel, but thats from Volk Racing wheels which are pretty expensive, plus u need a custom adapter since SHO bolt pattern is not available. I know koing (prophet wheel) makes a 5X108 on some of there wheels but im not sure if they are available on their "lightwheight" line.

The M3 replica rims I have were bought from the same company that makes the M3 rims, just that the M3s always have 18s or 19s, so thats why these ones arent the actual size you'd find on an M3... They were drilled with the 5x108 bolt pattern the first time, rather than having to get them redrilled. The guy I got them from had them on his Volvo S80, and it cost him $375 per rim, plus the tires... I love the look of them on my car, and more than likely I will end up keeping them on there, but I just wish they awere an inch bigger! Thanks for the compliments, I think at this point, I am the only one with these rims on a SHO, which is great, because us Emerald Green guys need to differentiate outselves from eachother! :D

Have you looked into lightweight 19's from Team Dynamics? They make the correct offset for our cars or if you really want to go expensive you can look into HRE custom drilled rims.

Found a decent looking set of 19lb/each 18x7.5s with a 42mm offset. Will that fit on my 92 okay? Should fitperfect, right? Also, what size 18s would I run on a Gen II?

Anyone know what size 18" tires are best for this setup? (18x7.5 rims with 42mm offset)... Any economical place to get 18s?

I had 235/40/18's on my 18 x8" rims on my old '89 SHO.
Fit perfect.

Kevin,

How did you manage to make the M3 rims bolt pattern fit your car?

I run 18x8.5" rims with 235/40-18 tires. 20mm spacers installed in the rear. 44.5mm offset. Radical fender trimming. No rubbing. Car is lowered ~1" in the rear.

In the process I had the remove part of the rear side molding (door section) as this was where the tires were rubbing against after I installed the 20mm spacers.

The main problem I had pushing the wheels out was actually with the wheel studs. The stockers were just too short. I ended up punching the stock studs out and expanding the holes in the hub to fit longer studs.

Unfortunately, longer studs were not available with the same 12x1.5 stock thread. So now I'm using 1/2"x20 studs in the rear.

Will post pics soon.

my rims are a 17x7.5" Detata M3 Replica Rims, which were drilled with our 5x108 bolt pattern, the first time, rather than getting them re-drilled, as most people would assume. I love the rims, and I will probably keep them on there for a while, I think I'm the only one on this board(that I know of) with these rims.. :D
I too had to take off the small trim piece in front of the wheels, (these rims are 17x7.5, but they have a 30mm offset), I think the wider stance looks great, but I did have to trim some of the quarter lips..
Cmichaelo Do you have any pics of your car?
