It really doesn't matter, the diameter of the wheel, it's the width of the rim and the offset. A 18in. with a 7.5in. width will be less of a risk than a 17in. wheel with a 8in. width. My strong recommendation would be a 235/40 18 tire. You could go wider, you could rub. I also find my 235 width tires shorten the life of my suspension components pretty quick as it is. Maybe 245/40 18 would work. Also remember that 18in. wheels will make much more of a penalty in unsprung weight. You'd have to find an extremely lightweight wheel that would even come close to being as light as stock.
