that's corroded as all ****. I would be checking everything in that area very carefully; something else is gonna go like that soon.

My mechanic didn't say anything else had issues...just that the alternator was pwned. But thanx...I shall have that area looked at to ensure nothing else blows up on me. :salute::salute:

lol, yeah you could fix that with JB-weld but the structural integrity of that casing is so f***ed from the... looks like a cocktail of filiform, fretting and intergranular corrosion that another part of it would snap within a few miles. That really is impressive! How many miles were on it?

150k, calcium chloride at its best.;)
I swear the shit they put on the roads in the winter up here could eat through a battleship.

Hey bro I think that might have had something to do with your flashing charge light past 5k rpm LOL!!!

As far as I know it was the original alternator with a little over 150K on it. Surprised it lasted this long considering what awful condition it is in. Glad it died in the driveway instead of on the road or at work.

Oh... didn't catch that, I thought he was talking about regular ol' salt. The Hcl was obviously a joke reference to hydrochloric acid, though I probably got the chemical name wrong for that too. It's been a long time since HS chemistry...

Did I mention it was 70 degrees here in GA yesterday. No snow/salt for us. HAHA!

I talked to a buddy of mine that lives in Marietta and that's what he told me. A little different than the high of 15 or so that we had on Sunday. I'm looking forward to that when I move down there!

As far as the alternator, your definitely got your money's worth outta that one!
