Will using Premium fuel help prevent carbon build-up?

I know the extra octane make the fuel harder to burn thereby resulting in less pinging on a hot day. But will consistent use of Premium fuel PREVENT any more carbon build-up or is it simply a band-aid fix?

Can I replace the caliper/rotor on just one side?

For whatever reason I had one caliper go bad on me which caused my pads/rotor to wear extremely fast on the passenger side rear. I checked the other side and it looks great. Plenty of life left in the pads and rotor. So, is it okay to just buy the caliper, rotor, and pads for the passenger...

Anyone use dishsoap to clean their K&N filter?

I was just curious if K&N cleaner is the only thing that people use to clean their filter? Or are there some special properties to the K&N cleaner that make it imperative. I bought a K&N cleaning kit a while back that comes with enough oil for years but only enough cleaner for a single wash...

Does a new compressor rule out clutch/coil problems?

I have a brand new compressor, brand new condenser, and full charge of 40psi on the low side. Yet my compressor will only turn on if I manually jumper the low pressure switch. I'm flummoxed. Wouldn't the fact that I have a new (not reman but new from Ford) compressor rule out any of the...

How do I know if I have R12 or R134?

My SHO had a new AC compressor installed in 1999 by a Ford Dealership and at the time my system was an R12 one. I don't have the receipt anymore and I can't remember if they converted to the new R134 stuff. Well, now that I need to recharge I don't know what whether to simply put in more 134...

Quasi-stripped one Valve Cover bolt but no leaking :-)

I'm tightening up my last bolt after replacing my plug well seals and right about where I expected my torque wrench to click the bolt all of a sudden turned easier. It's kinda hard to explain but it was like the bolt all of a sudden stopped resisting my wrench and turned about 50% easier. I...

How do I remove the throttle cable from the rotating arm?

I'm in the process of removing my intake to replace the spark plug well gaskets. Anyway, how do I get the throttle cable off of the rotating arm? Do I need to remove the whole rotating arm? The cable seems to end in a small steel cylinder in a hole that prevents the cable from slipping out...

Is replacing Valve Cover gaskets important?

I need to repair my spark plug wells to keep oil out of them and my old car isn't worth putting much money into so I'm just going to RTV them. However, this necessitates removing the valve covers. Can these valve cover gaskets be re-used for another year or two?

Where did you guys find new coolant bottles?

My coolant resevoir is cracked in the bottom. The dealer says the SHO coolant bottle is discontinued and unavailable. Has anyone found an aftermarket solution that worked? It seems like a used bottle from a junkyard is just gonna crack soon so I'd rather get a new one. Has anyone repaired...

    Who makes QUALITY lug nuts?

I've got aftermarket Riken wheels and I'm sick of NAPA lug nuts that rust or the chrome part actually falls off. Can anyone recommend a lug nut that won't rust or disintegrate?

    Extrude Honed Exhaust Manifolds

It seems like there has never been any talk of this here. Has it been tried and found wanting or are the exhaust manifolds so good it wouldn't help?

89 SHO's are different-What SHO headunits will work in one?

It seems that the 89 SHO is a peculiar animal when it comes to the sound system. I have a premium sound system and my second 89 headunit crapped out. I'd like to get a new Ford unit that just plugs in. What years will fit? And I definitely DON'T want another 89 unit. Those just plain suck.

What part of the A/C system is behind the firewall.

Haynes sucks. I just bought their Taurus manual and the diagram on the A/C system shows a couple of lines going behind the wall into the dash area but doesn't say if there is anything back there. Is that where the "Accumulator" is? I don't see an accumulator in the diagram. Perhaps I should just...

I spent $1200 on AC Repairs and it conked out 3 months later.

I had the local Ford dealer replace my compressor and condenser and other misc stuff and it cost me a little over $1200. The A/C worked for about 3 months and then conked out. They warned me when the work was done that the old line would be prone to leakage in the future. Sure enough, my A/C...

89 owners, is the light switch supposed to illuminate at night?

Ever since I bought my 89 there has been no nighttime illumination for my light switch unlike my climate control dials. Since that's the way it was when I bought it I didn't think anything of it. Then it occurred to me the other day that perhaps it's supposed to. Any other 89 owners out there...

Which front tire will wear faster, right or left?

Or perhaps there is no significant difference? I had to get a new front tire the other day due to a nail puncture. I didn't realize the tire was flat until I had ruined it. Anyway, I'd like to put this brand new tire on the side that will get the most wear.

Water Pump ?- How did you get the 3 10mm bolts off?

I'm in the middle of replacing the front half of my water pump. I removed the battery, belts, WP Pulley mount and am now staring at the pulley housing. It appears there are two sets of screws. 4 that hold the whole water pump in and 3 that connect the front to the back. I just need to remove...

Who's changed just the FRONT HALF of the water pump?

I did a search and most of the history is regarding changing the whole water pump while doing a whole 60K teardown. But has anyone did just the front half portion? It looks much easier. Although, can you replace the WP O-Rings without doing the back half?

Uh, can overtightening your belt warp your Water Pump shaft?

A few days ago I tightened my belt because the belt was slipping under heavy load. I made sure to really crank that tensioner bolt so I wouldn't have that embarrassing shriek anymore. Well...coincidentally, a few days later my water pump pulley started making weird noises so I popped the...

After radio swap my clock numbers disappeared! Bulb is good.

After radio swap my dash clock numbers disappeared! Bulb is good. Has anyone else in an 89 SHO experienced this? I swapped my headunit for an aftermarket unit and then the numbers on my clock disappeared. 1. This happened after the radio swap. 2. The fuse is good. 3. The bulb is good. You...
