Can I replace the caliper/rotor on just one side?

For whatever reason I had one caliper go bad on me which caused my pads/rotor to wear extremely fast on the passenger side rear.

I checked the other side and it looks great. Plenty of life left in the pads and rotor.

So, is it okay to just buy the caliper, rotor, and pads for the passenger side and be done with it?

ive never had a problem with just changing the caliper and rotor on one side. just dont change one side of pads. you always want to do those evenly. to be on the safe side if you can, at least cut the rotor on the other side to that you know that its even. but that isnt a must either.

Are you sure that the bad caliper isn't the one you think looks great cause there is so much pad left. Sounds to me like that caliper is not functioning properly and the other one was having to do all the work and wearing quicker.

yes you can replace 1 caliper, but putting 1 set of pads on the car will indeed make the braking feel rather strange. I just slapped a slightly used set of pads on one side that was unevenly worn compared to the other side....i panic stop and the car feels all squirrely.

Just buy one rotor, an unloaded caliper, and a set of pads. Do the pads on both sides and the 1 rotor and caliper. It wont cost much more to do that. The caliper was probably sticking thats why just that side wore down. I see that all the time. Good luck. :thumb:
