89 owners, is the light switch supposed to illuminate at night?

Ever since I bought my 89 there has been no nighttime illumination for my light switch unlike my climate control dials. Since that's the way it was when I bought it I didn't think anything of it. Then it occurred to me the other day that perhaps it's supposed to.

Any other 89 owners out there who can help?

Hiya Trusty, just went out to check mine:

The headlight/parkinglight selector is not illuminated. For that matter, neither are the steering wheel mounted cruize control buttons or the antenna up/down control.

All others, including the ashtray light are illuminated, as well as dimmer controlled.

Thanks. It seems odd to me that the light switch is the only dial not illuminated at night but, oh well.

on my 91, there is a light that plugs into a socket on the backside of the dash panel. this light is illuminated with key on.

He has an 89. There is no provision for any light behind the headlight switch on the 89s. We just have to know where the switch is to find it in the dark.
