Hi,

Im going to be getting some flowmasters put on the SHO in a week and im still trying to decide which ones to go with. My friend had one a few years ago them and it sounded like pure sex. I dont remember which ones he had, im pretty sure it was either 40s or super 40s or delta flow 40s. Is there any real difference between them sound wise? Im pretty sure it wasnt 44s because this was 5yrs ago and I dont think they were out then.

I have them on the GTP and there is no markings on them except "flowmaster"

Probly just go with super 40s

I have a single flowmaster 40 series run out of 2 1/2'' custom bent pipe, and even with a sizeable hole in the y pipe it sounds pretty damn good. i'd vote for a pair of those.

We have a set of Super40s on the supercharged car, and I really like the sound. Make sure you have a good resonator to get rid of the rasp, and you will love the mufflers.

I have deltaflow 50s and I really like the sound, but it's VERY loud. As was mentioned, make sure you get a really good and long resonator to reduce the rasp.

Eventually I'll be going to a single 3" exhaust and I'll either have another flowmaster or switch to a magnaflow to help with the sound.

i have a old sho shop y-pipe gutted cats, ball and socket ****** 2 1/2'' - dynomax pipe back to the rear and another 2 1/2'' ball and socket ****** where it ys off so its not all restricted there either ant its 2 1/4'' from there to the delta series 40 flomasters and it sounds awesome at idle and in low rpm but in high rpm it has alot of rasp im guessing i need a bigger resonator. other than the rasp it is great. really loud tho. but at idle in traffic it bellows and any challengers really think twice about the crazy looking Taurus next to them.

A thought about the resonator....I had a stock cat-back on my car before my muffler guy hacked it off in favor of the 2 1/2" piping....and rather than buying a new resonator, we simply "modified" the stock one by lopping the ends off and spreading it out a bit and threw it back on there. Works like a charm, and there's NO rasp at all.

Yea im going to wait and hear it with just the mufflers first, im not replacing any pipe yet just the mufflers as they have fist sized holes in them. I know my buddies car just had the stock piping as well and his sounded mean as **** with no rasp.

Which Flows did John Kirvan have? Kurt Edelbach's car sounded pretty good too. Yours has a different sound all together. :)

EDIT: Here's a google video I found of Kurt's car at Summit Point. I think that he has some more vids posted online.

i would suggest magnaflows, dynomax ultra flow's, ****** maximm flow or aero chambers, I think there is someone here with aerochamber's... I'd love to hear what those sounded like... my brother had them on his Impala SS and they were very nice mufflers....

more importantly all these types of mufflers are straight through designs, where as the flowmasters are not.... and besides my personal experiences with changing out flowmasters for straight through mufflers.... I've also been on a camaro forum where they had a comparison thread of power output with flowmasters and with something else... like a SLP loudmouth catback or such... most gains on moderately built cars were 15hp...... but these are also with 350-450whp cars...

Single Super 44 here, LOUD, and horrible buzz at 3550 even with a MUCH larger resonator.... Flowmaster now resides in my trunk.... I have my Dynomax duals back on.

:bs: whatever dude. post up something other than 'butt dyno' results. That is almost as ridiculous as those stating they get better MPG using premium fuel.

I don't what people are puffin' these days, but man...

A set of 40s came on my 91. I like the sound; loud but no too loud. I have an 18" resonator and I think it sounds pretty good.

And, FWIW, my stock-otherwise 155k Plus put out 200hp; 198ftlb on the dyno last month. With the flowmasters on it.

Power or Torque?

The flowmaster's flow MORE and thus produce LESS backpressure.
And as we all know, or at least most of us, the SHO engine is VERY picky about backpressure and how it relates to TORQUE.
With the added flow I am sure they produce more power (HP) and from presonal experience, I also know they produce less Torque.
The Torque, or lack there of, is what you are feeling.

I just bought my first SHO yesterday, but one of the stock mufflers has a hole in it. I'm looking for an exhaust system that sounds better than stock, but not too loud. Thanks in advance for your help.
