I dont think the entire tranny is used, you take the bell housing and use a t-5 i believe. I dont think an aerostar transmission would hold up to too much torque.

yep, just the bellhousing and a t-5 out of a mustang GT. I've got BMW 2002 you can put it in, for free.

Good luck finding that bellhousing. I think Off Road SHO is selling an other part needed for the conversion in the 'classifieds for non-SHO' section.

Oh...as far as the 73 Mav?

As long as you do something about those hideous 5-MPH bumpers...

Oooo, now that would be a fun car...

Then again, I still like the idea of a 3.0 Yammerha in a 914.:dribble:

my buddy would love you for this since he wants to get a maverick himself..

my other buddy had a 70 something maverick and i remember that car being a inline 6 with posi rear... from what i remember the maverick was gonna replace the mustang back in the day so it ended up being short production

Hey, why don't you just cut the front clip off of a SHO, and weld it in place of the be on a pickup!!! That would be SWEET!!!

I've seen the sho pickup with the ranger bed.
I've seen a 914 with a yamaha.
I've seen a Maverick w/ a 302.
I've seen a Maverick w/ a 351 *note. original car was a 6cyl and the 351 dropped on the street in a shower of sparks 3 weeks after it was put in. lol
I've NEVER seen a sho powered Malvin, I mean Maverick. IMHO Go for it!!!!

Actually, I gave up on my SHO powered Maverick a while ago. I drifted in a different direction.....namely a mid 80s ranger with two turbos, a SHO engine and a slushbox driving the rear wheels.

The mav i have had a 302 in it, anyone know the deminsions of the 3.0 engine and the 302? If driven easily will the aerostar trans hold up till i can get ahold of a t5...or maby t56?

Why would you go through the fabrication process for an Aerostar trans if your ultimate goal is to use another transmission?

Don't hold me to this, but I'm pretty sure the Yamaha motor's a tad wider up top, thanks to 4 cams in the heads rather than one in the block. But i'm pretty sure it'll squash between the strut towers.

I'm also pretty sure the first time you put all the power and torque through the aerostar tranny, it'll leave chunks and a puddle in a trail behind the car. If you're gonna do this, it's best to do it right the first time.
