I have a bunch of shims out of a 1997 SHO V8; they are exactly the same diameter as the ones out of the Yamaha V6s.The thickness follows the same increments. However, these shims have a machined hole bored through the shim, off center near the edge. It doesn’t look like it would come anywhere near the cam lobe. The hole might be 2mm in dia. Question, Is that hole to help oil through or to help remove it? Has anyone used these in a V6? I'm not a SHO V8 guy.

Thanks

They are to allow you to remove them. For the V8 you shoot compressed air in there to get them out. I would not use them in a V6.

We use them in V6 cars all the time, they're fine. In fact they are better than fine as they are a little harder than the V6 shims so they don't tend to wear as much.

When the V8 shims were still available, that's what Josh was selling for new shims for the V6 cars.

Thanks Mr. Anonymous!

I didn't thinnk that there was a problem with them being used in a V6, one guy on this thread advised against it. In fact; i have a 1990 that Im working on right now, it will get the v8 shims.

V6 SHO, V8 SHO, or Yamaha dealer for 29mm valve shims.

And be very careful when buying used shims. There is another common size for motorcycles that is 29.5mm in diameter that do not fit our buckets. Most sellers on FleaBay can't read a caliper, let alone know what a millimeter is, so be wary. BTW, would anybody like to buy some 29.5 mm shims?

Aw, what'sa half-millermeter - cain't see it anyway. Just hammer 'em in there - they'll fit. Where's your 'git-r-dun' attitude at :thumb:

cetroutt - if you know which sizes you need, James (St Louis SHO) probably has a decent collection of shims and probably every size you need.
