I'm new to the Forum and just bought my first SHO about a month ago. It's a '94 ATX with 85,000 Miles on it. My question involves the Spare Tire/Spare Tire well. The spare does not seem to fit in the well (the tire is too high, and the cover sticks out like a sore thumb). Does anyone know if this car was supposed to come with a full size spare? if so, what's the proper size? Thanks

The SHO was not available with a full-size spare, however the SLO models were. Some original SHO owners ordered the revised spare-tire cover in order to put a full-size spare into their cars. The full-size spare cover had a raised area to fit over the regular spare-tire. It looked like a donut molded onto the cover. The original SLO full-size spare size was P205/65-15 on a steel wheel.

That helps...i'm not sure of the tire size, i'll check tonight, but it does have a Slicer rim. I'll see about ordering that revised spare cover.

Yeah, SHO's for sure didn't come with an extra slicer as a spare, guess you lucked out.

To the best of my knowledge, none of the Tauruses - SHO or non-SHO - came standard with a full size spare tire. There may have been either a factory-orderable or dealer-installed option. But, having been through literally hundreds of Tauruses and Sables, I have yet to see even one with this "option" in any salvage yard. That's not to say the option didn't exist, but if it did it was apparently as popular as dealer "installed" air conditioning.

If i'm not mistaken, the revised spare tire cover came from the PoPo cars which came with full size spares, no?
